--> edit: my.range-center was missing but now it's in the folder; it is required to make the lfos work. put the file somewhere that max will find it, eg in your utility folder or in the folder with the amulator patch. (it's a handy utility abstraction that takes two inputs, 'range' and 'center', and based on that it will output a min and a max. maximum range means that the min or max will be 0 or 1, depending on whether the center is above or below 0.5)

a few months ago i posted a max patch where you'd have several harmonically related oscillators amplitude-modulating each other. There's an LFO on the strength of each modulator. The other controls are the ratio of each modulator's itch to the carrier, which can either be multiplicative (harmonic #) or, um, divisive? (subharmonic) depending on whether you hit the switch. I made the LFO that controls AM strength so that for each modulator, there's two LFOs at the same frequency but out of phase

i made two versions, one with sine waves and another with triangle waves. the sine-wave one sounds more clean, and, unsurpisingly, fm'y. the triangle wave one has a bit more grit. If you wanted it to be uglier you could replace the tri~ objects with triangle~ objects, which don't have any anti-aliasing hence would contain a lot more harmonics.

all the files are loccated in the directory linked above
here are some 10 second samples (I didn't touch anyof the controls while recording):
sinewaves making a thich fm'y drone: link
sine making a dense mid-frequency chirp: link
triangles with various tones coming forward and back: link
synthy droning triangle: link
triangle high-pitched drone: link
a vibrating triangl sound: link

here's the patches: sinewaves: link

let me know if there are any externals missing, i think they're self-contained.

404!

bummer. the university wiped my account for some reason. am correcting the error... may take a day. weird cuz it was working just a few hours ago.

my other webspace was down earlier today but it's up now. all the addresses have been updated.

fun!!! I just made some horribly abraisive noises at work. will have to dig deeper when I get home.

Do I need max to run these?

max runtime (freely available) will run them (windows: link mac: link ) . i tried to export these patches as standalone executables but it didn't work for some reason.

edit: if you want, i can add a sample-recording faculty to the patch so that you can record what you're doing from within max runtime. it'd be simple but unless there is interest i have other responsibilities to avoid

cool. will try them when i get home

thanks for sharing

apparently there is a utility abstraction that i made which is absent from there. right now the server is down, but it'll be up again soon with the missing doodad.

yeah, looks good but i'm missing my.range-center

the missing file is there now
