--> Hey guys i have been reading this forum for a while but had yet to sign up. Enjoyed the blog about the shittiest gear ever but wondered if you guys have ever owned a piece of gear you felt was crap but slowly came round to the fact that it was actually a truly amazing piece of kit (rather than shit) and has become a truly integral part of your setup.

For me it was the FIZMO - when i first got it i loved the strange sound but the iterface, where anything above 50 % on any of the knob levels ceased to be practically useful, drove me nuts. I eventually traded it in for an An1X which was fine but could never plug the gap (nice pads but not really in the same category as the FIZMO though and the other sounds it could make were not a touch on my waldorf Q abilitiies). Eventually i managed to sell the AN1X for a favourable price and hunt down another FIZMO and now its all bliss again.

Tell me your stories.

i had my yamaha tx16w sampler for more than 2 years before i did anything with it
i tried it once- found it to be a pain to do anything (especially as i didnt have a sequencer at the time (other than a drum machine))
it just sat there depressing me then i tried the other (better) OS i got with it (typhoon) and it was much easier and now i think its ace
actually i think im always a bit disappointed with stuff when i first get it
i had an sr16 drum machine for a year which i liked then i got an hr16 and it just seemed crap in comparison but over the years ive learned to love the hr16 a lot more than the sr16- just takes time and patience to get into stuff

hmmm, i guess the only shitty piece of shit i've ever owned were those few Crate guitar amps i bought before getting a jc120. gawd, i hate Crate amps... sound horrible, electronics blow out for no reason, speakers get shitty and dirty sounding after a while, horrible EQs... why did i buy them! why did i buy a second one after the first one died?!?!?!

this 80s epiphone SG.

real P-90s
thick neck (wink wink nudge nudge)

just made of ash or poplar instead of mahogany.
and it was 25bux!

i like all my gear on sight, the best" ooh this is shit no actually its ace is the korg poly 800". a wolf in sheeps clothing.

i have to say i was pretty damn disappointed when I first got my virus, flipping through the presets gave me the feeling of a trance dj in 1999.

just a little careful touches in the right places though and its rawkus.

i hated my rs7000 when i first bought it, trading/selling all my other gear to afford it..

wanted to throw it for the first two months, was so hard to use and just didnt make sense.. now i live for the fucken thing.. its an amazingly flexible piece of gear... even if i bought a new synth i think id still use the rs7000 to sequence it..

yeah keaton got a virus, and i kind of hated it until i learned that you could program the thing. before that, my lame attempts at physical modelling of a b3, or other shit was just lacking.

it actually took using the computer version of it before i knew what was up with that crazy thing.

since i've gotten the nord (thanx again ejectorset) i've been messing with putting some acid bass sounds layered on eachother - like running a clean 303 sound from the Nord, and a distorted 303 sound from the Virus (which has excellent distortion). TWEAKMANIA.

having 2 synths is more awesomer than having 1.
i must say that m-audio quattro its the shitiest ever

ops wrong thread

Yeah, I still have mine along with two cassettes of presets. Gotta make copies of those things if they aren't shredded already. ;-)

yeah, the quattro is unredeemably shit. my cousin had one and its total and utter wank.
