That classic clicking high pitched "kraftwerk" sound... ooh, goosebumps!

And the video still feels fresh also. At least compared to much other 80's stuff.

I wish someone would post a live version of Rock It on YouTube, such as the performance on Saturday Night Live circa 1983.

It shows how live electronic music can be interesting to watch, even without a bunch of light shows and movies...

Heeeeh, what the hell is this. Special effects department on drugs.

its unfortunate that somebody as talented as Herbie Hancock had to resort to animatronic mannequin legs and a fairlight to sell any records. dude used to play with miles davis. does anybody remember sextant? headhunters? now THOSE were good records - still a little cheesy, but just so damned good. So much better than Future Shock or Sound System.

Headhunters was (maybe still is?) the best-selling jazz record ever. He made a fortune off of that record.

Even better.
Video

i think "rock it" is the only good track hancock have done. it's the whole machine, dolls, fx department on drugs, fairlight, electro thingie that's good.

'rock it' is fun but i prefer him in this mode

there was another video on utoob with head hunter that was pretty funky
but the user took it down

Watermelon Man?!
nice video
too bad it wasn't done on 35mm or some proper format

nah, that kind of funk isn't really my thing.

That keytar player. Wow!

bodo, that video is worth it completely for Ron Carter's playing alone...my god. But I can live without Miles Davis. and to a certain extent, I kind of get this impression that headhunters might have been just another length gone to to glamorize and sell jazz-there was a lot of that around that time. I guess it just wasn't quite the length that "Rockit" was...
But if you just want stuff like Rockit, so many other bands did that style a lot better than Herbie Hancock in my opinion.

One of the most underrated Hancock albums IMO is "Sextant". It's sort of a mix of weirdo free jazz, modal funk, and proto-electro. I don't know the exact year but I'd guess 74-75.

Oh wow, it's '73. This was way ahead of its time.

My girlfriend went to a Herbie Hancock concert a year or so back, and she told me that they started and finished with something that could only be described as improvised electronic noise -- but that it was more connected to music than a lot of the stuff like that she'd heard.
