I'm interested in generative/algorithmic art, but it seems like it's usually visually/conceptual biased.
Aside from Autechre, I haven't come across much enjoyable/listenable/impressive work in the field of generative/algorithmic music...

check out sergio luque: link
he makes extensive use of stochastic and generative processes i believe

astroid?
i have no idea about math music but i know he likes maths and music so i assume he does that sort of stuff. and i know its GOOOOOOOD

is generative music only stuff that is calculated by maths or is it anything that affects its own output independent of human input (like stuff that feeds back off itself creating its own patterns)?
audio-midi feedback is great for generating non human rhythms
isnt most noise music kind of self generating? (not that i actually know anything about it)

bla, refer to the Wikipedia entries I linked to above.
and, yes.

ok
i guess some of my stuff counts as generative then (more the feeding back/ self influencing sort than the calculated/algorythmic kind)
some old stuff (you may have heard a couple of years ago) here link
i too wish i knew of more generative stuff (very interesting to me)

I've been thinking lately that generative music might be great for video games. To avoid the monotony of repeated music as you search for items, kill goblins, etc. Has this been done before?

lol thx race
bla, your music is some of the most compelling generative stuff i've heard. i was describing one of your pieces to Ariel the other day.

i have this fractal video that has the most bad ass music ever on it, it says in the credits that it was made with algorithms.. kind of broad explanation, but you can tell it's totally mathmatical.... when i get a VCR i'll record it to .wav and post it somewhere.
one time, i linked pitch to velocity in reason(i think) and then set snap-to 1/64, zoomed all the way out, and randomly clicked my ass off.. it sounded pretty cool.

In regards video games, it's very often not generative, but some sort of random or simple stochastic processes can be used to layer up different loops. Faking it is key in games. Nearly all artificial intelligence, generative art and other such 'smart stuff' is inappropriate for games due to the fact that it takes up so much of the cpu time, and the results are often unpredictable and difficult to debug. So everything is faked, and it's a _lot_ easier to get apparently intelligent results than properly intelligent. But as the hardware keeps improving, who knows, I'd certainly love to see interactive music and especially generative speech. A few papers have been written about it, but it's mostly in the theory stages at present. It'll be a wonderfully exciting field when it arrives.
Gamasutra link have published several articles on nonlinear composition for games, but you'll need to register and search the site to find them. Worth a look if you are into this sort of thing.

blas music is really one of the most interesting and challenging generative music i ever came across.
aswell generative is the stuff karlheinz essl is doing.
link
also twerks 'now i'm rendered useless has some serious generative approaches as far as i remember.
