--> I really want to bring my live performance/improv type stuff into the studio, so to speak. For some reason I've been loving the idea of human error and imperfections lately (reall original, right?). A lot of my previous max/guitar stuff has been droney and ambient, so it was no problem to "quickrecord" something and import it, or rewire max to the sequencer and record myself triggering events etc. Something that has been bugging the hell out of me recently is the fact that I can't rewire the output of max to another program, and also use the [adc~]. Anyone have any success with this?

I have a feeling I could do it with pluggo if I wanted to plunk down the $$, but I really shouldn't have to.

the way I do this is to basically always have the rewire host open and monitoring the max/msp output, recording whenever I need it. granted, you always have to have both programs often, but the cpu overhead isn't too bad for me.

I don't understand how this will allow me to use a mic input in max at the same time?

yeah, my bad, I just didn't fully understand what you were trying to do.. i don't think you can usually record in rewire slaves period -- however you could try to use something like SoundFlower to route the audio out from max/msp into a non-rewire recording app.

Thanks Filarion, I'll try soundflower.

Pawel: Max works as it always has. I've never been able to use the mic input in max when running it as a rewire slave, though. Really, I want to be able to play my guitar through max, and record in a digital performer or cubase session file (so I can hear the drums and all that other crap at the same time that I'm recording).

ok, so apparently the pluggo objects necessary to make vst's out of max patches are included in max/msp. Why did I never know this? probably because I'm an idiot. Instead of trying to mess around with jack or soundflower, I just made a vst, and it's working acceptably. It seems to make things a bit sluggish, but it's a lot easier to record something with the vst on, then render that track than have to juggle things between programs via wiretap. Thanks for everyone's help
