This night will showcase some of the foremost experimental music from the Toronto community. Chenaux and Perri's work both features deconstructed folk-tinged songs as their basis. Both artists draw on their involvement in various other projects. Perri is best known as electronic artist Polmo Polpo whose scope includes epic lapsteel-inflected pieces, minimal techno informed 4/4 pieces, analog-centred drone, and his brilliant Arthur Russell tribute... He also plays in Double Suicide and guitar/voice/synth x2 duet project with Ryan Driver.
Eric Chenaux has long been a fixture in Toronto's music scene, dating back to his work Phleg Camp, a seminal math rock band. Currently he co-owns Rat-Drifting a record company which documents musical activity at the fringes. He is a member of the trio the Reveries which reinterprets songs with guitars filtered through mouth-speakers, with homemade basses and slurred vocals. He also plays in genre bending improv groups the Draperies and the Guayaveras, as well as "sweet-jazz" combo Drumheller. His new record on Constellation show cases his idiosyncratic guitar playing in the context of low-key songs.
I Have Eaten The City are a trio which melds improvisation with electronics churning out sets which evoke various strands of out-rock, the modal pan-ethnic free-jazz of Pharoah Sanders and Alice Coltrane, noise groups like Black Dice, ambient music, glitch and contemporary classical. Members include Nick Storring (cello, computer, electronics, vocals, etc.), Colin Fisher (sax, guitar, fx, etc.), Brandon Valdivia (drums, percussion).
