--> Went to a boot sale yesterday and got a casio VL-1 for £2.50 (about 100 buckdollars)!! At first I thought it didn't work but I found that if I turn it on and off quickly a few times it powers up and I got down to recording it straight away. Classic 8bit sounds, built in speaker, simple sequencer plus a line out....love it.

do these things sound as awful as I remember?

100 Buckdollars lol.

Well done on your find!
The manual explains all about how to use the calculator to create your own custom sound

Here's a trick I stumbled onto: run it through a wah pedal or "touch wah" filter.

I got one myself, it's such a beautiful looking/sounding simple animal. gorgious sounds. and it's a programable synth to boot! (sort of)

follow-up blog with audio?

No problem CC, gonna have a bath then I'm on it.

Nice find!

Track released!

I owned one of these back in the day (yeah, I'm that old). Used to trigger the MS20 with it.
