I noticed bsr's blog on video editing recently and it just so happens that I had my first stab at video editing this week. I'm currently in my last year of university and I'm taking a course on the social history of the automobile in the US. Our prof pretty much gave us free reign over the medium which our research assignment would take. I'm a history major so I'm pretty tired of writing essays for every research assignment and I've been wanting to jump into some video editing and thought this was the perfect excuse. I asked him if I could do a music video, he said it was cool. I'm a Texan going to Canadian university so I wanted to do something relevant to the times.
So here it is, my first attempt at video editing. Prior to the film's inception I was going to do the soundtrack as well, but it's due in such little time that I'm afraid of not being able to do the film justice. So, halfway thru my editing process I slapped on Amon Tobin's Searchers and it seemed to work. I plan (hopefully) to use my mixit50 for the final soundtrack...let's see if it all works out though.

dayum, that was smooth. i'm pissed off my webtv project failed now. too expensive to host media. might try again hosting with archive.
was looking at high definition digital video cameras today. not cheap. but i got a huge tax rebate coming soon... want one.

Yeah, same here...with all of our practice with seeing audio on a timeline video editing I found was a quick learning curve. I just watched some pirated tutorial videos and boom..I was surprised at how fuckin' easy it was. I farted this project out this past weekend with no experience except the cutting and pasting of all that footage (which admittedly took the longest time). So yes, I want a digi cam eventually...maybe after uni as a grad pres.
and hopefully I'll manage to scrap the amon tobin in exchange for a mixit50 soundtrack.

Just a little comment if you're going to transfer to DVD and view this on TV, you need a title safe area around the screen or on some TVs part of the subtitling is going to disappear. Parts of it also disappears on some scenes because there isn't enough contrast -- black on black etc.

oh ya good stuff. i guess we shouldn't talk about the actual content (or should we?), but i _know_ we're not talking about where u got ur video tutorials! ;) very smooth video indeed.
anywhoz, now i'm going to talk about the content. i'll start with: 1) do you believe that cars and their dependence upon oil and our dependence on cars and corporations need to make a prophet create war? and if so 2) do you drive a car? ;)

um...I just think we ought to slowly uproot the foundation which the automobile relies on (i.e. oil). There are soooo many other forms of energy for transportation. Those in power have made a foundation which they profit the most from...it's tough to get change when there are so many dollar bill signs.
I drive cars, but I don't have a car. Currently my only owned forms of transport is a bicycle and the internet.

i sold my car cause it wasn't getting me back to maine. ins/reg/insp, etc... plus all those pesky warrants for my arrest, so i don't drive anymore. i kinda like it.
anywhoz, i believe we can veer away from this situation easilly if enough of us really work towards it. all it takes is momentum.... we did it to get here, we can do it to get away from here haha
