--> about once a month i trawl through the bins at my favorite record shop. 90% of my records/cds are at least 20 years old and recently i've had a hancoring for something current. i blame it on all of the great tracks that have been posted recently.
anyways, i've never downloaded music ...yeah yeah, just crawled out of my cave... and someone here recommended bleep.com
i love that site. lots of different styles, high bit rate, lets you listen to the whole track, etc.
are there similar sites? where do you shop for music?

[i've been looking for lots of rarer experimental stuff from artists like iannis xenakis, tod dockstader, pierre schaeffer, karlheinz stockhausen, john cage, edgard varese ...i doubt i'll find much of their work online, but just thought i'd ask]

emusic. Has lots of great stuff, ONLY independent artists, high quality mp3s, no DRM (i.e. you can copy them easily).

link
(shameless plug )

ps. most of the artists you mention appear to be there

Yeah I got tod dockstader there (emusic). Has some neato features too - something like last fm 'neighbours', based on purchases. Not forgetting the first 40 dlds or so are free too.

i've gotten a lot of stuff from here - link

I signed up to eMusic about three years ago, just to buy one CD - the CD my vocalist put out a few years prior, it was the only place online I could find it -- figured $9.99 was worth what I was getting, and then I never cancelled -- I get my 40 downloads per month, and I always use them all, so I've just kept the subscription running.

I've found a lot of things I'd have never known about otherwise.

got linked fromthe random pic.
