--> Is it me, or does it seem like an unprecedented number of em411 members are achieving musical "success"?

*A number of people have released music videos lately.
*STFU has occured a number of times with plans for more in the future.
*We have a mastering engineer among us.
*Umami, Mormo, Liger, Ochre, Room, Autistici, Ignatius, jdg, Implex Grace, hecanjog, n9, and a whole bunch more I'm forgetting have released serious albums with varying (high) levels of success.
*We've been featured on compilations (Autistici, hecanjog, Implex Grace... and many many many I've forgotten)
*A number of us have created successful software and hardware tools.
*Some of us have started labels... (Room, hecanjog)
*...and netlabels (Hippocamp...)
*Many of our websites are hosted and/or designed by em411 members

...lots of stuff!

Despite the sentiment that em411 aint what it used to be (something I believe to a degree...) I'm thoroughly impressed, and after writing this out, honored, humbled, and proud.
And inspired.

Yeah, I hear you, but 2 years ago it was really exciting when somebody released an album... now it seems to happen all the time.

yeah: 'success' is a slippery idea, (always seems one step ahead of wherever you happen to be ;) ) but i noticed this too, stuff happening all over the place. good stuff!

also: smart blog pic.

edit: i hadnt stopped to think about it before this blog but alot of folks here have acheived these things since i started visiting em411.. its really nice to see the way things are developing and working out well for ppls music related endeavours bigup em411.

i think about this a lot, more from the perspective that i can't believe all these people are in the same place. em411 is a serious hub.

em411 is a catalyst.
this site inspired me to start performing live

due to the contacts i made on this site i played a gig in FINLAND! this year...wtf
also stfu in Weimar was mind-bending.

thats the power of positive energy concentrated into action.

i love this site, but theres a lot of what i would call "received wisdom" which i dont agree with sometimes
but overall its enhanced my music/life over the last year or 2.

and let's not forget our dear friend Fredo.

i think a previous thread talked about how subjective success is.... but doing what you love seemed to be a major criteria

i think many people are beginning to reap what they ahve sowed - for my part it has been a slow process - but if you are writing and getting involved theer is always the chance of being picked up for a release

i wonder what 2007 will hold for folks....

intriguing statement monty - what do you mean by the "received wisdom" bit? do you have an example?

er...
when people regularly praise artists i can barely listen to for longer than 3 seconds.
lol
im too diplomatic to give examples
just taste issues really

also: sometimes i feel as if some em'ers comments are given a certain gravitas for no obvious (to me) reason.

eh...ill shut up now.
Let's not forget our dear friends Ice Cream Creatures!

And definitely let's just focus on the work, not revelling in "success". Sorry to be so sour. Just saw For Your Consideration and felt really depressed by the film, as I have felt very much in the same place as those sad-sacks. The problem comes when you start to think of yourself as a success or failure, and start reading best of lists and stuff.

I think because of the already high quality of the music in our releases here that it keeps us and new comers on our toes to produce music well. Our creativity can only progress forward and I've seen this on hippocamp as well.
Also we're very generous in sharing technical help, if you have the creativity and knowlage of a whole bunch of high quality music producers then thats like we're working together to progress and succeed in our own ways

success is relative. my album sold about 150 copies and to me that's mindblowingly good

I'm happy enough knowing some people choose to listen to my shit at all, any progress from this is additive success

i can't claim success but from time to time, this forum has ramped up my skills and compositional brainstorming and
...just all around audio knowledge a tons....

this site has been a catalyst. it gave me the confidence to follow my dreams and i believe i'm not the only one.

This site has kept me out of real jobs and failing at school, big up yall!
