--> i'm sitting around at work watching videos of live performances by artists that i'll probably never get a chance to see. so many of my favorite artists just don't tour any more or rarely, if ever, tour the states.
i've also noticed a lot of performances that were extremely ...un-live for lack of a better term. ie: bobbing their head to a dat or something.

which got me thinking that it's been some time since i saw a really good live performance of electronic music. jamie lidell + four tet was a good one.

(shameless plug)

wow, really like the angle. don't get to see that very often.

aphex twin - the glade glastonbury 2000.
plaid - at the same place
surgeon and autechre last friday in manchester.

i don't go to see electronic music to expect people to jump around. is good when they do. i listen to the music.

lfo last week: link

(and for the autechre fans: link )

i reckon the best live performance i've ever seen was manitoba a couple of years ago, 2 drummers and a guitarist playing over a dvd which provided the backing track and the visuals. was incredible inventive music and put most other acts to shame.

i wish boards of canada would let me help them plan and produce a gigantic outdoor springtime live show in the wilderness with lots of psychadelic screen visuals and other, uh, psychadelic things. for now i'll just have to watch it in my mind man, in my mind! *points at head*

no electronic acts come here. actually jamie liddell came here with beck. it was impossible to get tickets though. damnit.

i think last matmos tour was really cool even if i didn't menage to see a show, just some vids on youtube. Jamie Lidell is probably my favourite as well, phonophani has just a laptop but sounds so dense.. alva noto and sakamoto for the visuals.. oh, AGF is not bad too, lovely singing over digital never repeating virtuosity. mmm... got many in my mind... last week i saw a guy called manyfingers who did a great show totally based on livesampling. He was recording everything on the fly including guit, drum kit, various little acoustic devices, etc..
jel is pretty cool live, i reckon.

i so wish boc would tour. apparently, they've stated that they will never tour. i guess the few live shows that they have done didn't go well or they just don't feel that their music doesn't translate well into a live show. too bad.

i've noticed that most of you (that went to some bad ass shows) are from the uk. now is it just me, or is the scene there more susceptible to electronic music. to me, it feels like the states are still much more rock friendly and venues kind of look down on anyone with a drum machine and synth ...god forbid a laptop.

the circuit breakers blew my fucking mind.

jamie lidell does indeed rock. i forgot to mention millicent at stfu helsinki - was a really tight set.
oh and i have seen boards of canada play at the warp lighthouse part. they were really very good indeed and had the whole grainy films of seagulls and skiers going on.

Squarepusher - November 2005 @ Stealth, Nottingham.
He did a laptop set with live bass

I'd love to see RDJ or Bjork live.
Also Ellen Allien or Miss Kittin.

i've seen some videos of sp's sets and it seems like a lot of times he presses play and kind of noodles around on his bass. of course his bass playing is pretty amazing.

so quip, you saw boc?! wow, that's quite a rare treat. are there videos floating around from that (or any) show? i wonder why they don't tour the states.

matthew herberts plat du jour tour was blinding, lousy ket laced pills at sonar meant i missed his new set with dani. fennesz is pretty special when hes on form though he wasnt amazin the last time i saw him. pansonic are really good as well and wolf eyes can be awesome quite scary/funny
