Description:
In late March / early April 2006 I began work on a new project. It was intended that there would be five large scale noise pieces with four smaller "reference points" to accompany them. The pieces did not come easily and the more I worked at them the less they seemed to be what i had originally intended.By July I was able to let Biv0uac know that the pieces were almost ready for release. At this point I decided to give the pieces a last critical hearing and see if there was anything that needed adjusting. At that point I had to admit what i had suspected all along - the pieces just didn't work. Despite four months work they would need to be scrapped. Two weeks after deciding to scrap the large scale works six new pieces were ready. I'm not sure how they arrived - they just seemed to be like a gift. I am coming to believe more and more that there is a God of Random Things somwhere out there whose job it is to look after noise musicians and that she was working overtime during that fortnight. This work then is all that is left - the detritus - of the original project. They new pieces are a type of composting. The four reference points have been included and are now left to stand on their own.Four months of hard work to produce five failed pieces followed by two weeks when six pieces just fell out of the sky. There's an old Zen saying that the way to find enlightenment is to stop looking for it. These works show the truth of that saying.
