only question i have about it is setting the buffer size in albleton. how low should one go? until it makes the artifactish noise?

Go as low you can while maintaining a balance between CPU usage (it goes up as you lower latency), lower latency, and lack of artifacts. At least, that's how I've always done it.

I picked one up last year and love it. For a while it sucked after I upgraded my powerbook to Tiger. Now I use it with my MacBook and it's flawless. I love having the 4 ins / 6 outs in such a small package.
