Well i think there are some cool ideas on the design of this site so far but a couple small tweaks would improve it alot.
-I like how the friends system works. You can click on friends and it shows all the recent blogs your friends have, but i wish it had the most recent ones at the top. Or at least a way to sort it.
-In the same vein as the friends tab with the blogs, why not have a second column running down the side showing all the releases your friends have posted.
-then of course bringing avatars back. but i know thats on a different thread.
feel free to add your own ideas.

commenting on a track should not restart the song.
its so anoying. and with the auto play, i find sometimes many things are playing at once and i dont realize, wich is cool but then i think songs are different than they are when i comment.
maybe a player settings deal for each person? something.,

oh another idea i had is being able to click on a song name on the radio and have it take you to that songs page or the artists page.

But then, of course, you'd start another copy of that song playing. I was thinking how cool it'd be if there was a text box right in the radio player window that would send the submitted comment directly to the thread for the currently playing track!
Also, I concur about the friends page blog sorting. It says "recent blogs" yet pierlu's very first blog is always at the top!

I actually thought it DID do that with the releases... I just hadn't checked yet.
But yeah, most definitely.
Because, frankly, I'm going to be more interested in peoples MUSIC than there blogs.
After all, it is electronic MUSIC 411.

which is where the focus has shifted away from in this version of the site for sure. i already said it to a friend last night, before people were having popularity contests with track comments, now it's all about the blog-thumbs-up. mmh I'm not upset about it, but i think it'll eventually work out that way.
and a big YES to the sorting of your friends' blogs by date.

i think that when youre listening to the radio you should be able to give a simple good/bad +/- rating to the current (or previous) track without having to go to the release page - and the rating would show as a number ( 6 3) - or something
if youre into ratings
or maybe not- not that important- just when i was hearing good stuff on the radio i wanted to say 'yeah this is good' but couldnt be bothered opening the release page, stopping it from playing, commenting and going back to what i was doing

Personally, I've never used track ratings on em411.
I get the feeling that the distantly intended focus here is to give feedback, constructive criticism, rather than thumbs up or thumbs down & this is what I'd personally like to see emphasised even more.
The thumbs up/thumbs down thing seems to me to guide thinking about giving comments as it presupposes a polarity; which to my mind is a shame because to me, the comments can be neither negative or positive, as long as they're constructive or give me some information about some identifyable aspect or more gut reaction on the whole about the work...or...um...(*vaguely drifts off*)
I suppose it can be quite subtle, but if this negative/positive polarity were to be de-emphasised, I think it would maybe enrich & enliven the feedback comments on releases beyond 'nice track', 'I like the way it...', 'this rules', which get's pretty dull & is of very limited value, to the person who posted the track & to the community. Perhaps people would start to feel more open to giving & receiving what they maybe now perceive as 'negative' comments, & I think this would be most great :-).
I think it becomes obvious to each one reading a line of comments how successful a track was/wasn't, without so awkwardly being prompted to thinking of it in those crude terms.
Besides, with track rating, you often don't know who/why/what, but that's perhaps a secondary issue.
Just thinking aloud..

maybe one of those >> things next to 'latest forum activity' to display a list of the last 100 posts....i used to use that feature loads! really useful. especially when you lose threads
the blog section could also do with a >> thing to view past 100 blogs....already a blog i was following has fallen off the front page and ive lost it...or maybe a 'list all blogs' button, then the option to search them?
a list all users section would be good...like there used to be. viewable by alphabetical or by area.
a list releases section would also be cool...i used to use that to see if there were any more comments on a track since i last posted, if it had fallen off the front page....its good to look back through them too.....find stuff you missed.

AND THAT"S THE WAY IT"S GONNA BE FOREVER!!!!
i think some improvements can be made in the placing of google ads.. i don't like that they stand on the right side of blogs... when blogs are short they waste lots of space and the comments are too far below... always scrolling upside to stop the player and then scrolling down to read the comments... too much gym makes people tired... expecially if you;re forced to do it
Recent blogs: first blog!

i'm still not so hip on the myspace "invite to be your friend" and the blog voting and shit. Plus, i think it's absolutely horrible that the releases start automatically. worst idea ever.
all that aside this is better than before and it's good to see the page alive again.

mixedtape: Agreed. I really don't like the myspace friends thing either, it's a bit...you know.
I think the old em411 feature where you could add friends (buddies?) to a private list was useful for keeping up with people you've been talkign to (and remembering goddam names). It was rather like the seemingly much underused 'add to favourites' feature on myspace, which from what I remember, gives you the option of adding people to a list of favourites & making your favourites public or keeping them private.

you can use the sidebar there to list influences like some people do.
Personally I think friends is a great feature on myspace. It puts your influences (granted they aren't all on myspace) and your musical pals on the same page/in the same space.
The friends feature there is a more interpretable feature:
here we can add only ourselves and not stars and fans ... its a multiple-channel feature there...

you know what would be cool,
if the b's and r's worked like the blog backgrounds, but instead of likeaability, it would be dark with newness, and then light after a month or two,.
then the little friends deal could have a usefull feature of showing if someone your into has released or writen something laitly.
