anyone heard this guy? i find it really amazing. he has had loads of mental health problems over the years but its still about sometimes. better than bob dylan imo.
i just saw the dvd - the devil and daniel johnston. its crazy. that mans life is crazy.
he was once flying back from a gig in his dads plane (he was like 35 at this point and had just come out of a mental hospital) and he was reading a casper the friendly ghost comic. on the front was casper parachuting so he said to his dad that he wanted to do it. his dad said they didn't have any parachutes, so daniel johnston got angry, turned the engine off and threw the keys out the window. his dad had to crash land in a load of trees. the funniest thing is the pics of him afterwards, he has a massive smile on his face as he things he did a good thing.
anyway, you should watch the dvd, or watch some of his stuff on youtube, he really is amazing. | |

oh dope, i haven't seen the dvd yet but I do like his music. Have you heard that double album where it has all his songs as performed by him and then performed by artists like beck?

that new band he is playing in (at the end of the movie) is SO ridiculous. lol.
but yeah, amazing man with a very special story.
never really got into his music though.

YESSS!!!!!!! walking the cow and grievances are the SHIT!!!! I also like"wicked world" and his cover of dance with another.
I don't really think it's fair to daniel to compare him to westly willis, i don't think he's an idiot savant, i think his talent/genius is real. his drawings and songs are amazing.

the best thing about it is the emotion. in truth, his guitar playing is (or rather was) appalling. probably worse than me. but it was the fact that he actually felt what he wrote and conveyed it so so so so well. his songwriting is mindblowing. he was great on the piano though.

I found the movie kinda unbearably moving.
I really like 'hi how are you'.It's genius how it is both a massive cry for help but never sorry for itself,pure grace.Cnat really get into much else of his work.
