--> my brother bought this movie a few days ago and i recently got a chance to rewatch it since a couple years ago. i forgot how much i love this film so much i dedicated a blog to it. a truly epic film, arguably scorsese's greatest. the movie questions the notion of heroism as we see young, lonely, misled Travis' descent into madness, and reemergence as the taxi-cab hero who saves young girls from evil pimps and johns. throughout the movie, we are led on this journey with him, and with a taxi cab as his proverbial suit-of-armor against the filth of the new york streets.

this movie has so many philosophical and emotional contexts that it is difficult to take it all in with just one viewing. an important theme is how subtle and capricious events have a great impact on our lives and perceptions. had our anti-hero moved a little quicker at the political convention, he would have been labeled a villain, an assassin - instead of the dispenser of justice that the public sees him as towards the end. another is how easily a man can become overtaken by events he is not ready to bear. we certainly find ourselves sympathizing just a little bit with Travis, through his unfamiliarity and inability to sympathize with women - we see his small town naivete that Americans love so much shining through.

this film has had such a profound effect on me. and i regard it as Scorsese's masterpiece. if you haven't seen it yet, i highly recommend it.

the theme for this movie, by bernard hermann, is also surreal and haunting.

the jarring saxophone is reminiscent of something from a horror movie, and helps describes this movie very well.

de niro looks fucking cool with his head shaved.

I totally agree. Scorsese's greatest film. Fantastic.

De Niro does contempt better than any other actor.
I also love The King Of Comedy. where imo he gives a better performance.

it's definitely a good'n.. well a, great'n.
if you like the music, you should check out the john mclaughlin album 'extrapolation'... it's got some moments that remind me of it... also, just an all round brilliant fucking album.

De niro's great in this, but lately the only image of him i've got is focker's dad in law, which invariably leads me to think of blue steel.

the good shepard was very impressive, which de niro directed.

so this is taxi right? it's not called god's loney man? i forget, even though i know i've seen parts of it throughout my days. gotta watch it again, apparantly. thanks! ;)

ahh, taxi driver. sanks. i remember watching this, but so many movies i have to watch over - so many years of being absolutely positively stoned out of my mind. HAHAH!

everytime i watch this movie stoned, deniro's vicious six-pack sobers me right up.

it's definitely more of a surprising role. do you think that in the standup routine, which Deniro gave at the end, his 'goodness' at standup might be all in his head - like people have said about the ending to Taxi Driver? i've contemplated on this before, as his role in the king of comedy was just as screwed up, possibly even more so.

damn u.. now i want to watch this movie again.

you talkin to me?

;)

have you ever seen what a 44 magnum will do to a woman's face? (i'm implying that you are a woman.)
