Sometimes tI dont feel the need for a bass.
It seems to thicken things out too much, but only sometimes.
I like it with some grunge or static when I do though.
Also on a side note. I made a quick drum loop, added a delay, exported it as an mp3,
imported it back into FL Studio and choped it a bit. I dont know, I thought Id just ad that in. Its the first time Ive tried somthing like that.
Gonna do some more i think.
Oh yea about the bass..

Dont ever question the bass. The need for it, the power of it, or your lurve for it. If you forsake teh bass, you've taken a dark and dangerous path to a place from which you shant return.

Sometimes I wash with just water.....no soap.
Just water.
Yeah, just water.
Sometimes the snow falls down in June.
Sometimes the Earth goes round the Moon.

imo
the key to a good bassline is to use as few notes as possible.
make every note count.

just like you don't necessarily need bass intruments, you don't necessarily need a 'bassline' either.. but its a shame not to have some sub in there.. some monotone sine monster frolicking around at the lower limit of your hearing range.

"Kiss" by Prince is a good example of a song that works really well with no actual bassline. All there is in the low end is a reverse verb from the kick drum, but everything sounds full. I love it.

I always have to smile though when I hear a good solid, car-shaking sub bass. I don't like to force bass in my own music, but I do appreciate solid sub bass for the sake of solid sub bass.

Supposedly Baltimore house music deliberately leaves out the bass lines. It is thought to drain the energy level of the dancefloor over time, whereas with no bassline, people stay on the floor longer..

Well believe me when i say bass is the heart beat of your music no mater what the type of music you make i make noise and people didn't like my music because it was laking the boom boom bass and lately been ading the boom boom bass in my music and peoples started to like my music and even the many peoples that hated to death my noisy music came to like my latest music

sometimes i don't use bass either because i like the sound of the piece without it. yet i feel like i'm breaking some major rule when i do that. i almost feel guilty. then i remind myself that its ok to break the rules. along the same lines, too much bass is not good either.
