dear diary,
ok, i've played like a lot of shows, but i still get nervous every time. and i think it's worse when i play here, cause i know people have seen me play before and i know my set consists of a lot of the same songs every time (albiet different every time but still most elements are the same). i wish i could make new songs more quickly so that i would have some f-f-fresh trax in there. also, i keep trying to make things more and more triggerable when in reality i am realizing i should just stop where i am now in that respect and focus on tweaking effects more and and stage presence and stuff. and of course, the more i think about this the more nervous i get. and i wish i could get drunk to calm the nerves, but since i've made my set so trigger dependant i would f*ck everything up royally and that would be a bad thing. i think i need to stop playing shows for awhile and make new music so i will at least feel like i'm bringing something new to the table.
yours truly,
jen

ya don't hassle urself. cause that hassling's gonna get in ur way. not that i've ever played live, but nonetheless, the more u believe in urself, the more brave u'll be, and the better u'll perform. OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT
good luck, don't sweat the small stuff
edit: unless of course u like sweating the small stuff. i know i do, i do it all the fucking time. that's how i know it sucks balls. and sucking balls is ok, but like, it's like sucking nasty balls. the kind of balls u definitely do not want to suck. do you follow?

kick ass at this show, jen, and then take some time without the pressure of a gig to work on new stuff and get a new set together. but don't let your nerves get the best of you for this show.

i hear ya. i always get nervous when i'm on stage. acting is easier cause i can use that nervousness to my advantage...but it's harder with electronic music I think. but you'll still rock it and i'm sure once you get onstage you'll kick those nerves real quick. if not just hide behind the laptop screen. ;)

I know what you mean about playing the same material all the time - I feel Ive played the same 4 songs at every STFU Ive played at. We'll get on the writing tip this year and it will help us both out.
Good luck with the show and no necessity to be nervous at all [everytime I hear the word nervous I think of the track on this album by Neuropolitique: link ]

you are a force to be reconed with. Dont forget that. Go out there and do tha damn thing!
I see what you mean about redundant material. Spend the time to grow as much as you need to. If playing live has to give in order for you to put the time into new material, then do it! you have listen to that part of you first.

I had this show once at the University of Utah's school of music. It was like a circuit bent duet, and most of the set involved 4-track looping. Anyway as we went on I realized that my 4-track WAS NOT PRODUCING ANY SOUND WHATSOEVER! I mean we had a whole score written out and it was a very stiff kinda stuffed-shirt crowd. I was 100% panicked.
No moral here.....just a story.

frn, probably most of em don't know you.
the ones who do, if they like you, definitely get a kick out of hearing the same songs tweaked different. i'd get a kick out of hearing frn hits live.
the ones who don't like you, wouldn't like you even if you had new tunes.
and u rawk. so go rawk it.

I've seen you and you definitely rock!
Two thoughts: in my perspective, I think mistakes in an electronic performance are good - they let people know that you are working hard and you're not checking email.
Another: one of my books about performance mentions that if you give yourself permission to make mistakes, the likelihood of you actually making them are much less than if you're vigilant about it. So don't be so hard on yourself...

nervousness comes with the territory.
I'm sure you'll be great. for me it's the waiting to play that kills me... once you start to play it's fun to just get into it.
I love playing live!... but I am such a non-performer.
I've also made my live sets very trigger dependent... not to mention trying to play live instruments and loop them in time!
I also agree with Roshi, if you make up your mind that it's okay that your performance won't be perfect you'll be looser and more comfortable.

really. dont be nervous. evrytime i read something about your sets, they seemed to be uberamazing. even if you'd just play itunes, i'd be great. as your tracks are really cool.
and as you probably listen to the same cd more than once at home, peple don't mind hearing the same tracks more than once on a gig. maybe there are even people coming to hear some track again. hence there are still people going to the see the rolling stones just to hear „satisfaction“.
just go out and do it.

A point on nerves - If a problem can't be solved, it's not worth worrying about. If a problem can be solved, it's not worth worrying about. (not thought up by me). So for this show, just concern yourself with the things that you can do sth about & ENJOY IT & surprising & good stuff will happen.
"... if you give yourself permission to make mistakes, the likelihood of you actually making them are much less than if you're vigilant about it..." - Good one, Roshi.
(Note to self, listen to own advice)
