while the information age is still young, you cant trust computers to be completely loyal, not without a few years of experience, or your experience with computers. im not sure what im talking about.
age is another factor, the age of a computer which affects many components the older it gets.
eh, in other words, backing up data is a top priority now, every 2 weeks, whether its an online backup, or a hard disk copy.
I learned this the hard way, where as i accidentally wiped out my main partition (Windows) and my second partition, (fresh Windows Recovery) where i kept most of my music, website, music information etc.
So everything was gone, and DVD copies werent possible, because the DVD drives were not working well. Yes, even my original music project files were gone.
But it was a good idea i had Mozy there for me, because if it wasnt for Mozy, well, i would be screwed. Backing up my project files/samples on IT was a excellent idea, now that i think back on it, especially after incidents like this. So now i have my project files back, but not my vst's, which is something i should have done. Oh well, 2gb of free online backup is just wonderful, and i got my files restored and downloadable in about 5 minutes.
i also had some old DVD's with my old stuff on it which dates back to August 2006, and alot happened in between then and now.
im considering buying a backup storage HDD, easier than having to make, what 3 DVD's every 2 weeks? Im going to especially need it when i have to back up some studio recordings of bands that visit every so often. (yes i did tell the bands what happened, they were cool (or at least thats what they told me) with it)
so what now?
time to fix this lightscribe burner.

everything in my setup goes on a redundant drive that is left offline and unplugged in my comp. I find that to be super easy!

another good idea is to not use your ipod as your permanent file storage solution and drop it somewhere. (if someone finds it its mine)

If you can afford it an external drive makes it easier. Or just get an enclosure and a hard drive and build your own (usually save money this way). Backing up data is definitely a good practice.
