I can tell you a great place to have Japanese tea, if you are interested in that kind of thing...
My opinion is you should avoid tourist traps such as Statue of Liberty or Empire State Building. Perhaps if you are into museums the metropolitan is the best because you can just wander around for hours. There are plenty of places to sit and read or write or whatever. But my favorite part of NYC is the lower east side. Tons of cheapish places to eat and drink.

best part about the Met Museum is that the entrance price is just a suggestion, you can pay as little or as much as you want to to enter, last time I went I paid 50 cents cuz that was what was in my pocket

yeah, i agree.. i used to go at least once a month and was poor so paid a nickel. But really, it's such a great place to just hang out in... the Japanese garden... the Temple of Dendor (or whatever it's called...) all the little odd areas...
I once had a dream that I discovered an orgy room there. That's the one thing the museum lacks!

mmm pork. I just made pork chops marinated in my homemade horseradish/rosemary/pepper marinade. Being able to afford food is great.. Now if I could only get back to NYC

The Fries on the Mcdonalds on Broadway and 8th are the best fries ever, they differ from every other Mcd's fry ..unexplainable. Canal Street you can get any pair of fly sneakers way less than the price on the wall if you got cash and its the end of the day, same with Delancey street. Canal got alot of underground pro audio shops more toward the west side. Stop by breakbeat science or satellite to find out electro dnb stuff goin on. The village got all styles of music imaginable every night. Rogue music got second hand hardware dirt cheap. Dont look to touristy in washington square park if your gonna be around the dealers, hell just go there to get tourist chics and watch Master Lee's show if he still even performs there. Brooklyn got some good stuff going on also a bit more on the underground tip. NYC aint all that rough, stay off the drug turf though and youll be all right.
