I made a bunch of alien inspired mp3 ringtones for mobile phones. Some are awfully high pitched, so you can hear your phone above the rabble, and be able to summon your pets, or scare your neighbours with spooky alien noises. But why oh why am I making mobile phone ringtones?
It all started when I discovered that a mobile phone ringtone site was deep linking to my music and not crediting the source. I felt a little jaded. But then I saw the potential of short pieces of electronic music as unique ringtones. I realised that I didn't mind my music being on people's phones, but that I would prefer to design them especially and offer them up, before faceless linkers had a chance.
They are each a very small mp3 file, some are short pieces of electronic music (the first 4), some are sound effects. You can access them from the original blog entry from: link

Nice that you thought about usability.
I think making music under such contraints is a really interesting challenge.

I think there is real potential in creating little pieces of music for the phone. I think I will do some more.
