--> I have recently been updating my studio setup (no new equipment, just better shelving, tables and organization) and have been having to organize a lot of unused cables.

I like to keep them somewhat easy to shuffle through, but rolling them up and strapping them with a wire-tie is even getting sloppy in some of the more dense storage drawers. I've tried many methods of storing unused cables such as rolling up tight, rolling up big and hanging on things, hanging them on closet hanger bars in the closet, and such.

Then a buddy of mine brought his stuff over to my studio and he had all his cables rolled up and each one was in an individual ziplock bags. I don't know if it's just me, but this seems genious. There is no possible way to tangle cables, you have a bag you can lable if needed, and ziplocks come in all sizes so you can easily sort and differentiate different types of cables. It might take a little longer to put a cable in an appropriately sized bag, lable it, and drop it in the drawer, but if there's 50 cables in that drawer it's a pretty neat way to go.

I don't think I'd do this if I just had a few extra cables around, but in my case I'm approaching 100 cables and powers supplies to store, so I gotta try something different.

I just had to share that one. Hopefully you find this useful.

cable storage picture

^^ this worked for me. $3.99 garden hose hanger works great for cables up to 10' in length. For shorter cables I got one of these cable hanger thingeys as part of a gear trade a few years back.

Mine's kind of like mux's. I have 3 ft piece of wood with 8 large nails angled upwards. I did the zip lock thing in suitcases for a while, but hated have to dig for things. Now I can just stand in front of the wall and spot the cable I need.

ok. lol garden hose holder!

I love conversations about tidying up. What is a ziplock bag? Excuse my ignorance. I'm always planning a move like this, in the back of my mind.

Dude you don't have ziplocs in athens? It's a bag with a plastic zip at the opening.
Try that.
