So i'm just starting to get to grips with max/msp having just made a vj application for a uni project, and i was trying to work out what to make that could fit into my production setup (Live 6).
This is basically a midi step sequencer for impulse with individual assignments for pitch / stretch / pan on each channel and the usual step sequence grid. I have no idea if its of any use but thought id post it up anyhow I think it would be quite nifty if you happen to own a tablet where you could literally tap the screen and sequence stuff.
link contains the max patch and a live 6 template with the associated midi mappings. It by default sends out on midi channel 16. If your on windows you'll need something like midiyoke to enable you to send midi from max -> live. (i think this is catered for automatically on macs). You also need to map one of the midi out channel to abbreviation b in max. Just need to work out how to save sequences.
Abbreviations in the patch are as follows:
le = number of steps
no = midi note to send for the channel (defaults for impulse)
dv = default velocity
mc = midi channel
div = divisor (1/16th by default)
I think my major problem with max at the moment is that its so open ended i have no idea what i want to do with it and where i want to fit it into my setup.
[Updated]
Now supports presets and has a randomiser

yes, abandon your interests and do what pawel says ;)
anyway- i think max is cool. i've never really given time but i've seen/heard some great stuff come out of it. i'd love a real time performance oriented midi sequencer just for controling hardware. i think that'd be dope. thanks for sharing. don't mind the troll.

looks cool
i've been doing this kind of stuff with the g2 into live. another corollary approach would be to set up lanes for controlling cc's within live. this is very very powerful- for controlling vsts and vstis, but really really for controlling the filter/pitch in impulse and simpler. you can automate the loop length/start point in simpler, and control it with an lfo/envelope/whatever in max. that makes things instantly and irreversably insane.

put "patch" in the tags.

this is really very useful and well layed out. I've often wished Live would have a simple step-sequencer included. Being able to mod pitch/stretch per step is great. thanks much!

if you added an option to randomize steps and be able to save presets this thing would be killer (for me). thankfully guys like you are out there that have the patience/knowledge/tenacity/intelligence/youth to work with max (and PD and SC and Reaktor and other math/logic mindfucks) and share their creations.

oops
i'm silly. you're doing a lot of that stuff. heh
here's an actual "idea"
you could set up the matrix control to be able to send sequencer lanes, but also envelopes and lfos to the midi lanes, in a modular sense.
so, you have from top to the bottom, all the note/cc lanes. then from left to right, you have which of the sequencers/envelopes/lfos are modifying the lanes. big grid like on a vcs. i wish i could show you what i mean but i have no capability as of yet. i know you can make a modular matrix like this in max.

isn't saving sequences as easy as making the little preset/save boxes? it saves everything, right? even the numbers? if i recall correctly, it does.

I intend to add some randomise and preset functionality, unfortunately you cant just use the preset objects as it doesn't store the contents of the coll object (which im using to store all the data). The coll object itself has read/write function so i can make sommit with that.
I get what you mean re the matrix thingy astroid, its quite simple to do something like that, the matrix object + router~ is perfect. Ill see what i can come up with
Re: Pawel: i would actually like to get into the audio processing side of things, its just something that i know sod all about. If you know of any interesting tutorials please link us up, cheers

for saving presets and such, maybe look into the autopattr object? that might do what you want.
very cool patch altogether, that looks like it was a lot of work!

Heh beaten to it, that mooquencer is pretty nice Slightly different i guess as its more of a sample / sequencer than a midi controller as such
