--> hello!

my dear lady friend spent a few hours over the weekend in my studio...and I wanted to get your opinions on the results so far. few disclaimers first:

- this is a super rough mix
- the vocals are effected (badly) but are otherwise untweaked at this point
- the song is not one you should cover (I KNOW!) BUT...we needed something we were both happy working on for a start...sacrilege, i know!!
- the treatment is itself very slapped together and i will probably replace it all
- avoid the guitar solo at 2 minutes...hehehehe!
- no last verse / chorus...etc.

so, yeah, bearing that in mind...or not if you want to be harsh (PAWEL)...i'd love to know your thoughts - especially on my lass' singing. i think it's quite good for a first try, with no post production and no harmonies....lalala...

she has a nice voice.

this is cool, man, she's got a very nice voice.

and she's cute

Do you think she's singing a little too low? Maybe up it a note. And get her to stretch the range a little. Her vocal tone is nice but it doesn't seem like she had much of a challenge.

cool. thanks for your comments. the fact that i knew you guys would give good feedback - with one notable exception - was something that spurred me on. in fact (in the spirit of all the i love em411 blogs posted recently), it is a real inspiration to work, which is a good and a bad thing....given that i spend every spare moment making music anyway

glad her voice has gone down well. i think it's a good start but I think what you say is right jogn. Obviously, i can tweak it for pitch but the main issue is that the pitch of the track doesn't push her voice much...and she wasn't keen (yet) to really go for it. on the other hand, i did want a more relaxed vocal style for this tune.

glad you like her voice monty - glad you like her in general astroid - and glad you like it overall playertwo. As for making music that could be sold, i do make a few more mainstream things but i'm happiest out there somewhere in cuckooland...not to mention the lack of quality of my finished sound - for proper commercial purposes. as for the guitar solo, i like the notes a lot but i recored it with too much distortion for my liking, which i can't really undo now...

by the way, as a matter of interest, the base track is all played through my midi guitar (apart from drums, which is through my midi kit) - which is nice cos I play guitar in a different (better) way than I do keyboard midi = yeah!!!!!

the vocal is a bit tentative but I think she has potential. the solo on the other hand is RAD.
why did you choose that song? cos the vocal on the original is so flat out, emotional metdown shit. I think it's what it needs, but maybe not in the same way

yep. we were just looking for a tune to do for a while. then we played that and thought, sod it, we'll give it a go. in general it's a daunting track - production - vocals - guitar work...but we were just doing it as a test really...a starter for 10. i reckon it'll be all good in the end

cool. well... keep it going!

aye - that's the key!!
damn good start!

i would call her voice very nice, but would agree with tonearm, seems kinda tentative. i'm sure as she gets more comfortable being on mic she will loosen up and put more emotion into it. get her to watch emotional and romantic movies before recording and then stick a mic in her face "ok, now sing!"

okay, i read now you wanted a more relaxed style of vocal. never mind then.

hehe bbwax that is a plan...! we watch (almost exclusively) crushingly emotional films, so yeah, will give it a go next weekend...or maybe on friday night after the last mixing it is broadcast would be a good time. i will certainly be emotional then I did want a relaxed style but i do think she sounds awkward sometimes. i am pleased though because i feel the general feel / tone of her voice is promising. more bird song soon...

Very nice, don't screw with the guitar it's perfect. She has a good voice and could really do this song. Just gotta get into it, as it is it's seems a bit somber for that song. I think the laid back beat would contrast well if she just went nuts and sang the shit out of it.

ooh, that's a treatment i hadn't considered...hmmm, yeah...interesting. *cries* no-one has ever described my guitar playing as perfect before - LOL!

and i wasn't even kissing ass

much appreciated dude.

i love the production on this, tis got a beautiful ragged sound. is this pretty much all played live with real actual life instruments?

her voice sounds awesome btw, cant fault it
