--> Well, im finally updating my aged 1gig no name mp3 player. There is so much good music here, and music that I have bought off Bleep and so on. I want to be able to carry around gigs of it all. Really helps when im painting too, to be able to just listen to music and not have to worry about the player.

So the ipod is out for me, dont like how its works and audio quality. Its between the Zen Vision M and the Zune. I hate being stuck to software to manage my music, and the zune is stuck, but its a nice player and the big screen is great.

Anyone have the Zen Vision M, or Zune and have any insights to how much these players suck or not. Im not worried about video, I just want pic ability and music.

creative mp3 players suck. youneed to intall their software to upload tracks...

I think the ipod is the best... although it's a bit expensive. it's solid like a rock, and has the better sound (you can install linux on it too ;) and pure data ! )

I personally hate iPods, and any other players that don't interface without proprietary software. I have a older Iriver H120 that I love, but if I were shopping around for something new I've heard good things about the iAudio X5L (supports Flac, Wav, Ogg, Xvid, and can even download photos directly from some cameras). But, don't trust me I've never used one.

I DUNNO - I use the SanDisk 1gig player. it was like $60 and tiny. 1/2 a cell-phone size.
all i got from apple was a letter. and it wasn't nice.

last time i checked it was..

it plays mp3's... hence the name, an mp3 player.

pawl. why are you so lonley?

i don't really get the ipod sounds bad schtick. It sounds fine if you have decent headphones and put a decent bitrated MP3 on it. The interface is great, iTunes is great, but is better on a mac.
They are expensive and everyone's got one but... they are the best I think

re: ipod - if i can't drag and drop files onto it then i won't buy it - i don't want a 'managed experience' - i want to be able to drag files from my computer onto my mp3 player - and i don't want to have to install perl or python to do it with some script off the net.

I've got an idea: buy vinyl :D
i agree. buy vinyl. be contrarian. walk against the flow of traffic. you know this is the true path to enlightenment.

i like the ipod shuffle for jogging and trips and whatnot, but holy jesus, you'll need a lot of spare time to organize all those fucking mp3's for a 20-80 GB ipod. ripping, burning, downloading, tagging, renaming, making playlists. it gets to be way too much like... work.

vinyl schminyl. if you read the post he wants to be able to cart an entire music collection around with him and listen to stuff while he's working.

i just use my blackberry pearl - it has a nice sound and i've put in a 1gb microsd card which holds plenty of music (i think it supports 2gig ones too now) - and you can just drag and drop files onto it, more memory would be better of course but it's fine for me (i just download music when i need it at work anyway).

yeah i realize that. guess i should've put a few 's in there.

don't know your computer, living, painting setup. but you might consider getting something like a shuffle for being mobile and something like, just good speakers for your computer or a wireless connection to your stereo for home listening. one thing that's irritated me about my situation is having a laptop with 15 gigs of music and itunes on it, but then having to transfer that all the time to a 20 gig ipod connected to my stereo. if i had just bought a apple wireless thingy i wouldn't even need the ipod. cut out the middle man so to speak.

so if you already have a computer you might consider that and just getting a cheaper shuffle or smaller mp3 player for outside of the house. just a thought.

i just got a 1 gig mp3 player and was very happy when i bought it. am i outdated? :-X

they have a few favourites there - reliability and audio quality seem to be consistently better with a few selected brands
