Hey all.
what is some good hardware to start out on?

PS: i'm on a pc w/ windows xp and currently use FL studio 6 producer edition. I like it and I'll stick w/ it. I guess I was more asking about hardware. thanks for the input tho. I really want to get some mics and some good hardware for some more freedom. | |

umm when you start getting hardware, i recommend getting things that are not attainible in soft.. in other words, go ahead and get a an anlogue mono (with VCO's) don't get a hardware VA, your computer already is one. and don't mess around and buy shitty stuff just cause it's hardware. I've fallen into that trap a small amount, not to bad tho.
yea, i'd say start out with FL studio, Reason, Live, Cubase any of those are good. I think Reason is in particular good for learning about what each type of device does (it has a good manual), and what hardware you might want in the future. although the sequencer kind of sucks.. I look back at all my old Reason tunes and think "jesus.. i sat there and programmed all that into Reason's shitty sequencer?"...
i'd suggest rewiring Reason into FL or Live or Cubase, they all have really good piano rolls.
and make sure you really try before you buy. that could be the most important thing. also, i'd say stick with soft for a while, until you really know what hardware you want to buy.

The Korg Electribe series are good for beginning hardware. Jdg pretty much said it on the software part. Could you post your platform (Mac/PC) and OS (Windows/OSX/Linux)? would help a lot for suggesting software.

good preamp, some microphones, a PDR-1, A toy piano, A fender resonator. Oh wait thats my wishlist...

Mac: DP4, Logic, Some Brie cheese(goes great with apples)

if i were starting out, i'd put 6 cyndustries zeroscillators into a modcan case, add a couple lfos and envs and make an analogue dx7. it's pretty much industry standard.

there are some nice apps for pc aswell. like live is running a little better on windows. plus there's sonar, which is an amazing sequencer. cubase runs a lot better on windows then on osx. don't be fooled you need a mac to make music. because it's not. it'S just another computer with a better os. that'S all.
maybe try reason. it's cheap. and it's fun
