--> Hey guys, I have an Acer Aspire 3003 laptop. Used soley for making music and djing. I hope you don't hold it against me for putting URGENT in the title, it's just that i've got a few gigs this weekend and the next and this has got me worried. I've just posted this onto Castle Cops forum to see if they can advise but i wanted to see if you people could do owt. thanks.

When you turn my laptop on it goes to windows fine then once there the cursor moves in a steccato'd, lagging way and then freezes after several seconds. I have put the laptop into safe mode and with msconfig disabled some, and just now, all of the programs available to do so to see if that made a difference. no, it did not.

I then keep the power switch held down to restart and then either put into safe mode to try clearing off what i think might be causing this or try to go back into regular mode. It far more often than not, freezes again.

I need this fixed asap. Can anyone seuggest anything?

I have pasted the last hijack report below and i have just run spybot and adaware. has not affected the problem.

Thanks,
Colin

ha ha ha...thanks for the help, i see you couldnt help resist throwing in some cheap pro-mac filth at the end. oh well...some of us are just better at dealing with mind control, eh.

actually, i am planning to buy a mac next. a dual processor one so i can run my pc plug ins on it...plus it's a bit faster. macs and pcs both have great points but this prob is ticking me off....will give mac laptop a serious fuckin go next time.

wiull try yr re-install os idea. here's fackin hoping....
ta.

Download and install your latest video driver -- but what's with all the Sony stuff? Disable all your spybot/adware tracking crap when you're doing music, it's just going to eat up your CPU. Disable your touchpad and use a mouse.

Maybe you don't need all that.

Right mate . ... do you defrag your drives often?

I suggest the reinstall route. From then on, defrag your drives. Update the OS, and disable all other crap. eg. sonic stage startup programs, sony media manager, etc. It also sounds like you've frequently shut down when the going gets tough. You should check disk on your laptop if you do that even if windows doesn't set the dirty bit on the drive.

btw if you're using zonealarm, remember to go into console mode and disable -----> disable vsdatant. Check every single blinking thing and reenable -> enable vsdatant service_system_start.

i'd say reinstall XP and do a Linux partition for internet use. I highly recommend getting on the internet with XP if you're making music. The name of the game on a PC is usually "keep everything exactly the same so it won't fuck up"..

unless you really keep on top of things i gues.

my experience with acer laptops:
1- buy
2- get ripped of by support
3- get a ibook, throw acer away
4- no more problems
