ahoy there varmints,
i've been coming to this site for 12 parsecs and am now going to waste your time.
i was born in new brunswick, new jersey. don't remember it.
moved to plymouth, massachusetts when i was 2, went to a private kindergarten learned some things and then skipped the first grade. my ego has been fucking with me eversince. nothing spectacular happened for many years
at age 9 i almost drown while at the beach on cape cod. i develop trauma induced asthma, allergies, and my metabolism shuts down.
soon after i move to fairfield, ia. 10,000 people 2/3 born and bred hicks 1/3 new agey types (theres a school and university there that was started by a guru named maharishi, the beatles followed him around for a bit back in the day)
i spent the next 9 years or so awkwardly straddling the fence between these communities.
at 11 i went to my first "rave" in the basement of a mexican restaurant on the town square. heard "ping pong" by speedy j and was hooked. the dj who was playing that night moved into an extra room in my house about a year later. we became friends, he gave me a copy of fastracker 2 and some samples and me and my 60mhz pentium got to work.
through this guy and his friends i was steeped in the history and current state of electronic music which ive mostly forgetten due to picking up the weed pipe at 13.
i become a hopeless romantic, fall in love with countless girls, but never have any success because instead of asking them out i mope around and make tracks. i get grand and self destructive ideas of heartbreak being my muse, and on a few occasions intentionally ruin things for the sake of making new music.
i read a lot of william gibson.
i graduate high (secondary) school and get a job flying around the country installing shipping systems in grocery stores. after coming back from an extended trip my friends (including my current hopeless crush) pull an elaborate hoax on me where she is kidnapped and i have to save her. this fucks with my head more than i realize at the time.
i get laid finally at 19 and calm down a little. move to vancouver to go to columbia academy of the recording arts. smoke more weed, break up with my girlfriend, blow through my inheritence, and move back to iowa.
after a brief stint in la to make a short film based on a gibson short which fell through, i start going to the university of iowa. things go ok for the first semester. 2nd semester i kind of freak out and stop going to class, leaving the house, etc. after a few months i snap out of it and the following semester take a creative writing class and promptly start writing my love life into strange metaphysical stories and making a huge fucking mess of both. a friend introduces me to the writings of haruki murakami, we share a lot of similiarities and can't write anymore without it seeming derivitave.
i drop out and have sinced moved to san francisco. im fixing the mess of an inventory for a european furniture retailer, djing 3 times a month at the worst gig ever, helping a friend start a minimal techno label, making the best tracks ive ever done, and fond of a girl who i think likes me back. good times.
all in all its been rough inside my head, not too bad in the real world, and its all good now.
