yeahhhhh!
I moved to New York a year ago. I lived in Westchester county and let me tell you, its boring as fuck! White plains is a nice place if you are a florescent professional, and the train is $11.50 round trip to grand central, and takes 45 minutes. So fuck this place, I am moving to Brooklyn.
Its amazing to me how things work out. I found a place to move a month ago but some one took it before me. Its completely unique and perfect for me to live, but I thought it was gone. Funny thing how a month later I see it on craigslist again. I immediately called the guy and told him that I was coming to put down a deposit. I am moving with a girl I have been hanging with for the past 4 months. She writes songs on her guitar and has some experience making beats and some production. Her voice is so unique and good.
The place is 800 sq ft(actually measured this weekend, more like 650) with 13 ft (but the height turned out to be 15+) ceilings and its in a commercial building that doesn't have any other tenants. There isn't a kitchen, but there is a shower and a bathroom. We have a small fridge and microwave. There isn't heat or an air conditioner. Its a block away from the subway and 10 minutes from the lower east side in Manhattan. Its a 12 minute walk from Williamsburg. We can have parties and jam all night long with out any body complaining. There is absolutely no one around. Maybe we'll start using it as a venue / living / rehearsal place.
We plan on building a loft area on either side of the space for us to live. each of us would have an enclosed 11x12 space to keep out clothes and bed and out music equipment would be on the floor with couches and we'll have a little stage to set up on. We both have about $2000 to invest in this thing. Its cutting it close, but I don't think its too far off base to get everything we want out of the place.
I currently work upstate and it will cost me $300 a month and 4 hrs a day commuting, but I happened to go to a convention with my work where I met a bunch of other companies that do the same thing as me that are stationed in Manhattan, so the plan is to get a new job asap.
This is a big risk to me, I will be spending half of what I make a month to live here, but shit, when does this type of thing come around.
I will be living in the E Burg!

Yeah, pics in march , I haven't moved yet. evidently she wants to document it with pics, so I'll have from beginning to end to share.
Yeah, space heaters will keep the rooms we build nice and warm, but I have no clue about the window units, there is one in the hallway to the bathroom, but there aren't windows in the place, so we might have to get some type of half assed cental air or something later in the year. I know fans won't cut it.
I'm so fucking excited that we'll have the whole thing set up to just make music, living is just a symptom of making music in this place.. thats the cool part.

delete, the rent isn't $300, thats how much my commute is going to cost me to get to my current job. The metro north is $180 for a monthly pass, the subway is $80 for a monthly pass, and the bus in Westchester is $40 for a monthly pass = me getting a new job asap!
Tripnik, its a block away from the Lorimer J. Where are you at?
