I thought you all might be interested in my current studio project.

My friend and I are building an interactive tea set that will have sensors and microphones all over the place. We will generate music and sound based on the movements and sounds created by volunteers. Pretty fun stuff. Check the link for more details.
Hey while we're at it, here's a video clip of me using the prototype for my other project this semester, a Nintendo Wii controller controlling Max/MSP:

And just for fun, another video from that show:

You should team up with the guy who sampled bread and sugar! I wish I could remember who that was (he posted a couple tracks here).

oh that's a nice project. i'm more and more interested in the arduino's cards...
but i'm not very good in soldering and electronics... and above all i don't max/msp at all...
i use bidule... but it can't handle data from the arduino without a OSC fucking headache...
does max handle the raw data that comes from the resistors, potentiometer and other analog controllers ?
yeah it's a quite nice project. i like this.
i would add a module that samples really small bits of the room and make small micro-breabeat style beats with it to add some fun, and a few sequence to have a less looping + random feeling.
i'd like to take a cup of tea like that.

the Arduino2Max patch spits out the numbers from the potentionmeters and resistors and such. It has 6 analog ins that send values from 0-1023, and a bunch of digital inputs that send 0 or 1 (good for switches and such). Then in Max it's easy to scale the numbers to do whatever you want. I find it much better than something like the miditron, which sends 0-126 (i think).
I like your rythmic idea, lematt, if we have time i'll try and build something like that.

lol
what if you had a keyboard set up that played the food preparation sounds/eating/polite conversation...just to make the inversion complete.

trying to make things like that in bidule seems to be easier using midi. but you're right, i'd prefer 0-1023 than 0-126...
about the rythmic idea: i wasn't talking about 4/4 basic beats. it can be random things but i always like when i feel a sort of tempo. maybe you can index the tempo of these beats on your first loop length...
the idea includes the fact that the small bits of room ambiance are changed regularly (a simple button can launch this action...)
it's something that i've done in audiomulch: i've sequenced the recording / playing of several recorders connected to a small mic:
when the room was empty it was nearly silent (but you heard small clicks... ;) ) but as soon as there was a breath it started. But it was a mess to sequence in audiomulch... easier in bidule or max i think.
just a few suggestions (you see: i'm really enthusiastic about projects like this)

yeah, lematt, I love the rhythmic (though not necessarily metronomic) ideas, i think you're onto something. We had talked about how a lot of the music that we seem to be making is quite drony ambient stuff. That's great, of course, but it would be great to work out something more percussive and crazy. I'm definitely going to give it a shot. Thanks for the idea.
