newsflash for politicians: the average distance between the earth and the sun cycles every 100,000 years or so, bringing periods of heavy glaciation, then warmth
//more worried about the coming ice age

I hate these unknowable politically charged questions. I like to stick with things that I can personally experience to prove/disprove.

well, most climatologists think that there's certain thresholds once reached result in dramatic climate change. i think they call it punctuated equilibrium or something similar. the earth's been getting warmer and after enough of the icecap melts releasing all that fresh water into the seas, global circulation patterns change (because of the density of freshwater compared to saltwater). so it'll get warmer for a little bit, then WHAM... another ice-age.

thats what I love about biology... you can actually test stuff, rather than just blow smoke in the direction of whatever your political beliefs happen to be, then call it science.

i'm with mlbot. climatology is like when physics gets into that ultra-hypothetical stage and almost becomes philosophical.

heard about this programme...want to see it! obviously there are lots of opinions surrounding almost everything, many of them claiming a sound scientific basis - take the flat earth society for example either way, i am personally happy no longer driving crazy cars, riding my bike more, exploring my own country more, wasting less etc...and, as many people have said, i'd prefer for us to make the effort and be wrong anyway, rather than just carry on as we are and face doom because of something we might've changed...
(i am not sure we can change much anyway really and i think we in the west should pay for those in china and india to store their CO2 etc...but the point i am making is that i am happy living the way i am...)
oh and datathinner, there are so many assumptions in reaching that proof you linked. i am sure some (not me) would argue whether james bond existed, or whether it's just a memory that was placed in our minds when we were created 5 seconds ago...or summat
