Hence the bloggage.
Scotch was on special.
I'm celebrating a new job.
Full time work as opposed to the casual work I've been doing for the last four years.
In theory my casual position was flexible and allowed time off to do music, but the lack of regular sleep cycles was a killer. The irregularity made it difficult to organise use of all the little spots of free time too.
So, now hopefully some routine will make things easier, particularly on the self development front. I'd like to get piano lessons, and do yoga at the same time each day, and maybe go back to doing some electronics classes in teh evenings. I could use some self-defense classes too. All this seems plausible now. That and the opportunity for the unbridled satiation of my gear lust.
I have the opportunity to play a set on a sound system at an upcoming multi-crew free party. This excites me as the DIY culture scene in Sydney has been in a transitional period for a few years, but appears to be reforming. I enjoy the dialog it encourages re: the politics of space (what is, and why do we need Public Space for example) That, and the fact that its just plain good old fashioned (rave) fun to break into a warehouse with a fuck off (big) sound system or six, and party all night long.
I have only a couple of weeks to get my MPC going again. I keep busting it - I'm a compulsive tinkerer. Perhaps if I swap out the dud CF reader for the ye olde zip drive I can update the corrupted firmware... Plan is to have it drive me analogs and crank out some dubstep.
I hope to get someone to video the gig as it will be a wild party and probably make a good promo to get more gigs...
Thanks for reading, I better go drink some water...

Man ... two things I really miss. Big ass soundsystems in a warehouse ... and my old MC-202.
I still think it's a crime that some kids today won't be able to experiance a sound system where you can't stand in front of it .. without it pushing you. There's a reason people started "jacking" like that.
I'm so glad that other parts of the world can still have fun. Fucking US rave laws. Ruined my life ;)

quip: Did I say "breaking into warehouses", I must have been drunk... I've never actually done this. The door was open, i just walked in.
monk: kittah is banned from teh studio... If you never hear from me again, its not because I was locked up for partying all night long, but rather that kittah suffocated me in my sleep to get at my warm synths.
djugel: fun is outlawed here too, though less explicitly. Big players can afford insurance, bribes etc and so commercial raves happen all the time. When free parties are shut down its usually with police bully tactics. It often seems to depend on the mood of the police commander of the area at the time. Free culture left unchecked is a direct threat to law and order. So kids here can jack to a big sound system, as long as they are wage slaves and can afford the high cost of entry.
Speaking of wage slaves - wasn't I just celebrating full time employment, and reveling in how this would allow heightened participation in consumerism. Well yes I was but...

Nothing like marshal law to make you feel all warm and fuzzy about democracy. surely the organisers of the raid knew that would be a really bad PR exercise. the mind boggles.

Squeal no, not off topic.
That there was no public outrage is even scarier.
We are sheep. I really need to educate myself - I need some larger framework to comprehend what I see, or at least allow me to explain what I think is going on in a more eloquent way.
