--> Clear Channel, CBS, Entercom and Citadel are being forced to include music by independent artists (i.e. no label owned by one of the big four, Sony, Warner, Universal, EMI (who i heard wants to get rid of their DRM)) and local musicians. On top of that, 12mil in fines to the government.

still neat though.

wi-fi, net radio, and podcasts.

While the big labels are pushing to control the distribution of music, the cracks are showing that they can't stop the sharing of music.

.....and that's all that will matter!

i personally can't wait to wake up at 6:45 am sunday morning to hear the best commercial supported 1/2 hour indie music block.

oh come on, 6:45? i'm betting at least 4AM, no later. and like 2PM or something.

did you know that ALL US stations are ALREADY required to provide community based programming every week?

.... just poking fun.

community programming is not the same as airing independent music, but yes every radio station - including college - is required to provide a certain amount of community focussed airtime.

they didnt do that when i sold radio for CBS, oh well. nice.

at least the money generated by fines was given to charities that fund music education.

it seems that a "deal" was reached with everyone involved which to me still sounds like this is kind of insular. the "independent music group" or whatever it is is sounds like a smaller conglomerate or something.

hopefully the net result will be positive. not that i listen to the radio much but it is nice when you hear something unexpected. at least the FCC is doing something.. paying attention a little bit.

does this mean they'll play evanesence demos? RAD

The cure for radio is to let the DJs play what they want to play–they would play what they like. Of course, there is no such thing as a DJ who plays and also announces at big radio anymore. If there is, it's not that common.
