--> I've been wanting one since the first time I read about them. So this weekend I took the plunge and splashed out for a used one (sans UW). Got it yesterday and this is what I think about it.

The good:
+ Very, very intuitive (with a few snags, more about them later)
+ Parameter locks!
+ Parameter locks again. Like automation but dumber/lovelier.

The bad:
- After making a sweet pattern, entering the song mode REPLACED THE PATTERN WITH THE PREVIOUSLY DEFINED ONE SAVED IN THE SONG. Pissed me off to no end.

The ugly:
- The knobs do not feel as sturdy as the rest of the machine. At all.
- The red LCD looks good, but lacks in clarity and contrast
- I fear I love step sequencing a bit too much

Next step:
Hook it up to my micro modular for a tiny tiny drum & synth setup on the go

song sequencing mode is where some real magic can happen. muting, looping any part of any pttern.. all that stuff is endless fun.. and leads to new places for me.

the knobs can be weird sometimes. i've had little issues where i'll graba knob and it will display a value that isn't even possible when in song mode.. like 99 for pattern length. but usually the next OS update fixes this.

the UW upgrade is worth it.

oh, i'm completely carried away w/step sequencing on the elektrons.

and congrats on the purchase!

.....hmmm, lol (I think he's joking but it's hard to be sure).

rip the rom sounds? LOL...maybe...maybe if it was just a drum machine.

Edit: I hope youre joking.

I think to most of us what PAWEL is doing is malicious, most of us who haven't even used a machine drum know that this box is as much about the interface as it is about the sounds. Sad thing is that some guy who has a machine drum and doesn't really fully understand it will one day read his comment and follow it through.

Whoever you are you should be ashamed because you are helping to make this forum only useful to the elite and making it a very dangerous place for the begginers with your crapola.

that picture could be the sole reason why I "enjoyed this blog"

Someday... MachineDrum... I would like to do a live setup w/ MachineDrum, Korg ESX and DSI Evolver. Machine Drum is the final piece!!! Or an MPC 1000 w/ the Japanese OS on it... hmmm...

Congrats!...I would love to try one out.
hardware drum synth/sequencer sounds like so much fun, to be AWAY from the computer. I can dream.
great purchase.

cool. and now let us hear some stuff

hi-hats and snare pissed me off on that thing. (not all the time of course)

I wish I still had it though ... great sound source for sampling... amazing scratch pad for sequencing.

I love the machinedrum. The only thing I don't like is how it saves patterns in record mode. that drives me crazy at times, because I want to totally destroy a pattern and maybe not save my mess. the pros totally outweigh the cons. I still cant belive the quality and range of sounds that it can produce.

I picked up the UW, RAM machines with individual LFOs mixed with parameter locks...

excuse me... but what is UW ?

sampling option for machinedrum

I broke a knob off... be careful about that.

that's odd about the pattern reset when switching to song mode... never heard of that. pretty stupid i think. my suggestion is to wipe the MD clean of patterns and songs and just start from scratch.
the knobs are kinda delicate, so i do try to take care of them as much as possible.
my cons about the MD are:
*sequencer quantize value is kinda low for my taste (up to 1/32)
*buttons are too "clicky"
*the analog style hats have a weird reverse effect at the end of the tail that sounds very silly IMO
*and after upgrading to UW and trying out the bitcrush effect on the ROM/RAM machines, i wish i could have that effect on all sounds as well...

but the MD rules/kicks ass/etc!
