--> We closed on a house last week (finally!).

It's currently uninhabitable, but it's a nice old house on 7 acres in rural Virginia. The lease on our rental expires in 6 weeks. It's a race against time as an electronic musician and a poet attempt to renovate their first home!

Hi Doof

Loved your blog - really well written - a charming story of young love, and hard work

Hope you both find all the happiness (and peace) you deserve after all that work

Wow.
Just wow.
This is completely and totally awesome in every way.
I wish you guys all the best.
My wife and I renovated our bathroom (ripped it all out - down to the studs and dirt under the house) by ourselves (except the plumbing which I found out that I couldn't weld properly after getting sprayed about a dozen times) and it almost gave me an ulcer - five years later and I am still feeling pains in my gut. But we did it and it's so much nicer than before.
You guys have 6 weeks to finish? I hope you two don't die in the process.
Seriously though. You guys are awesome.

wow, thanks both of you for the really kind words and support!

well, we have 6 weeks to get it into good enough shape to move in. we expect to be living in a construction zone, but would at least like to have a flushing toilet and shower. we probably won't have heat by then, but it should be warm enough to cope.

technically, we have 7 months from last week to "complete" the project before we start to run into trouble...

but yeah - six weeks to build a bathroom, upgrade the plumbing, finish one bedroom, and repair the kitchen!

Cool place!

MANLY WORK

congrats!

WICKED place man.......all the best with that!

Congrats!

Now get a-workin'

i bet it's placed like above an ancient cemetary or something but yeah, looks nifty on that image
awesome! good luck with everything and congrats. have fun and make sure you get someone who knows their shit to handle plumbing/electrical or you'll hate yourself later.

acreage!!!!! is wonderful. i'm sure you'll find a nice place on the property to have campfires.

you should organize a EM meet BBQ - help fix my house get together.

thanks ya'll!

I should probably get that tatooed on my head. But...here we go anyway, hahaha. Luckily, the electric is modern, save for a handful of old recepticals that I'll replace (easy access to from below the floor) and some lighting fixtures that we need to replace. The plumbing seems straight forward enough in that house, and we'll have the help of some family members who have done that sort of thing before.

well, so far all we've found is sexy polaroids in the crawl space! close enough, I guess

EM meet BBQ would kick ass.

Your house was built atop the ruins of a haunted brothel!!!

Watch out for ghosts in see-through negligees, which pretty much just look like regular ghosts.

This is awesome to see. My wife and I just bought our first house (in rural Southern Oregon). I couldn't take on a renovation project because my son is two years old, but I'd like to do that someday. I'm converting the laundry room into a studio though.

By the way, I like the idea of doing EM in rural areas. We should start an association of rural electronic music makers, since it tends to be more of an urban style of music.

good idea. just don't make anyone squeal like a pig! i love outdoor parties in the boonies. i'd travel far for an em outdoor celebration around a campfire w/a loud PA.

That's something I wasn't counting on.

Moobs in the afterlife.
