Are there any other (wannabe?) DSP coders around here?
Sometimes I find the music-dsp mailing list a bit intimidating (the nomenclature alone can be a bit daunting at times), and figured there might be more people like me here, interested in exploring the topic further, comparing notes, sharing information, tips, motivation etc.
Right now I'm reading up on the basics by way of "Digital signal processing - a practical guide for scientists and engineers" (2003 edition) by Steven W. Smith.
Any takers?

I'm slowly starting into DSP as well. What things do you want to program, and what platform? :}

I programmed some very easy stuff, I have gone through the apple audio unit tutorials, and hacked a bit by adding an LFO to the filter example and the tremolo example. I have also built some kind of FFT spectrograph, but it still needs lots of work and optimization. And the first real thing I built is this ASIO program with a beat detector to control laser shows. But it's really just a filter followed by an envelope follower.

i have been playing around with jsyn. It's ok I'm not sure about how useful it will be in the long run but, since java is one of my many programming lang. I figure i would give it a shot. I was looking at this language called faust which looked nice but, I having a tough time getting it to compile on my windows xp machine... something to do with the log function not been define right.

pawel you really have nothing to fill your life with. try to program that instead of spending all this time round here. for nothing actually.

what is this DSP you speak of?
jk. dps is really the only thing you deal with when making digitally based music. it's a pretty broad topic.

em978: i have faust compiled with mingw, and I have some makefile to compile the resulting VSTs with mingw as well, I'll look for them in the depths of my server and put them up somewhere (or submit patches). I also have an AU backend for faust, if anyone is interested. Faust is nice, gets some time to wire your brain around its primitives though.

daswesen: I'm working on some "general" synthesis blocks, oscillators, envelopes, filters, midi event handling & scheduling etc. I've got some ideas that I'd like to try out, but first I need to get the basics up and running! (VST on windows btw)

daswesen: No, c++.
The VST API is fairly easy to get started with, so I'm rolling with that for the time being.

I might try to compile with cygwin... I have the on my computer already because I'm in this compliers class... taking 3 computer science classes at the moment which is really driving me a little lonely, so I haven't had anytime to really fool around with this stuff. I really want to move my reaktor patch into a hard coded platform because, all those wires and substructures are annoying the hell out of me.
