so i have this idea to do a multi artist open collaboration process with
-audio
-midi
-patches
-host files
-picures link
-lyrics
-somethingelsetoo?
ill collect for the first pack (send things to celibacyclub AT NOSPAM gmail.com) and then make it available to everyone. the collab can then splinter off in many directions as ideas and motivation allow.
some things to consider:
are your filenames helpful?
should you say what the bpm or key is? i think yes for audio where thats applicable.
does your max or pd patch have the needed externals?
does your host file have the needed vsts? (lets avoid destributing pirated soft)
so, whos up for it? maybe u just want to send a file for now? maybe youve got ideas for themes or processes?

that sound your cat makes when it sees a bird
the sound of your dishwasher changing cycles
that midi where you got that drum pattern to sound so crazy
that patch that you just left going because it evolved continuously
that song lyrics youve been making up in your head while on the bus
the sound your car makes when you dont put on your seatbelt
the idea you had for a way ppl could make music together
the pic that inspired a song
^some things that would be great contributions

ok so we have stuff from jchot, adc, sprouts, crasys, going to get some utofbu, some pextris, some daswesen.
30mb so far, mostly audio but several pics, midis, a host file, and some sound fonts.
i think ill make a pack when it gets around 100mb uncompressed, sometime this week.

im intrigued. I vote a huge yes for bpm.
audio is universal.. my first choice for any sort of collaboration. That and midi files.
i love the lyric idea too. keep it fun, give it some words, maybe even use speach synthesis to sing them if nobody is game to sing (or vocode) Perhaps assign or invite people to choose roles? beatmaker, singer, lead synth person, tunesmith... la la la la
also you might want to really think about how you can make it UNlike a mixit or quixit just to keep the momentum there / keep er fresh. Just rambling. Pleased to see you doing this though, im definitley IN!

yes, yes beals. last night i got my midi controler working (inspired by your forum post) and decided we should do music projects in more interesting/elaborate/educational ways.
right now i want all sorts of things, then after those things are made available we can focus down into smaller teams that then might choose roles, softwares, or whatever.
also, i watched fightclub last night. i like the idea of homework assinments, this could be a way for project HYDRA operatives to give challenges or ideas to the rest of the group to do some musical thing with the collected resources. so that everyone is making the decisions, there are several heads.
if this process continiues maybe some groups will form, and challenge each other in some way. the things possible in this creative pool of technologicaly proficient people are i think quite amazing.
im working with a dood named pextris to get some web function happening, i think eventually there will be a place to upload and download things as well as talk about/plot musical adventures.

Would bidule files be ok? I helped someone over a KvR realize a plugin dream they had for this weird tempo synced granular loopy thinger. I'd be happy to share, it even comes with a half assed manual.

I too am into working with ways to expand this off mixit. Mixit being uncollaborative after the initial sample upload.
Perhaps the main collaborative part can be by remixing or modifying each others creations. This is how I work anyway, deleting tracks/sections which don't work and adding new ones. Of course the main problem is how to make this simple, how to make the source compatible with all our software. There should be something better then uploading all 3 minutes of each of our 24bit wav files for each song.
edit: after writing this I realize that I'm restating what's already been said and thought. If you all put a grease monkey on me you'd be at the same point. I like cc's idea of developing expertise. If somehow we get to know what each person can/wants to add we can send source files between individuals.
