--> i get so annoyed with this fucking shenanigan. im having one of those days where i cant write anything! not just that, but i feel like everything i have written (ever) is completely shit and nothing like i want it to be. i can get past a one bar melody right now, and when i come back after pulling my hair out i dont even like that! maybe i should burn my keyboard and pc and buy a four track. i just fucking hate soft synths and reason and the same old cubase everyday its draining me. i think i'm useless at electronic music and i really don't want to be. argh! im just ranting now, just had to air that...sorry.

I feel ya man...I don't wanna sound like I'm a teenage wannabe, but I really find it helps to smoke a bit of pot to help with the frustration that is innate in electronic music production. If not that, then I recommend you do some yoga (or something like it) and vent some steam that way.

I find whenever I finish a bit of yoga, dance, and.or exercise (running) that I'm much better prepared to sit in front of a computer screen for hours. Electronic music production is definitely not for the faint at heart. You've really gotta push on through...

p.s. find an alternative to making music on the computer. Take a mic and go out and record some things. Then spend hours in an audio editor and play with your noise. I find sequencing can really strike a nerve with me, so I try to find other methods of producing music other than being trapped by the DAW.

Go and do somehting else for a bit.

Just remember that you didnt always feel like this so you wont always. It will pass but it will require patience and a loss of memory. Until you forget about it and stop fixating on it, it will remain with you.

don't confuse your wanting to work on music with your need to write a song. there are a lot of effective things you can do in times like this, like sound design, sample editting, and patch writing that can fill the time, and chances are you'll be better prepared because of this stuff next time you make music. people who play instruments get a lot of time for scales, practices, etc. this is pretty much our equivalent, and its pretty easy to listen and hear whether someone has "practiced" or not. and its a quick way to add immense detail and texture to your music.

yeah they are all good points. i wish i could smoke a joint but too much weed sent me kinda crazy last year so i dont smoke it anymore. shame really.

draw a picture

try a bit of meditation

it's all about the breathing

imagine if your head were suspended by a golden thread

or just scratch your balls and feel sorry for yourself.

pfft.. try like 4 or 5 months. Its cyclical, and its not uniform - thats what I've learned. You're the mang, and music will come from you in time. God knows I know, its frustrating.

Tho I thinks the Zendo has its benefits, I think Zfignuten might be more on mark with the "Scratch a'you balls" idea.

layoff yourself. turn your focus on something interesting... if it's not music right now, that is no big deal. Just keep yourself happy, man. You'll be just fine.

2 years here....too much work, not enough inspiration.

and about the pot...maybe you were smoking some heavy indica type shit.

I always make sure I get doja that brings me up, not down...

then again, maybe pot'll just put ya in the gutter instead of bring ya out.

Try having some ladies suck ya off while writing a tune, I heard that helped with some bands in the eighties.

I get this too. Questioning my ability to write a good track anymore. I come up with lots of sounds which are pleasing to my ears but i can't seem to be able to turn them into a song. When i was at Uni, all i could think of was getting home to record music, and when i did, i'd be at it all night, but now i'm unemployed and have all the time in the world, i find myself uninspired most of the time. I find working with other musicians helps, get a mate round and have a jam or just turn your focus onto something else for a while and you'll find yourself musically inspired when you least expect it.

Dude, I'm experiencing that same scenario all the time, when everything feels like shit I usually stop doing that and go do something completely different, I get the same thing when painting aswell, I guess it's just wrong to force creativity.

try a little change of scenery, not permanently, just temporarily.
Even the great psyingo takes a break from his gear and pumps out teh beetz on fruitlee hoops.

What Deltasleep said ... I usually say that about everything

Also .. do you have any friends that play music too? Sometimes it's nice to create with someone else.. They play chords .. you write a bassline for example .. it's nice to write parts simutaniously. Sometimes it's a total bummer working with multitracking/midi sequencing all the time.
