More practicing.. and an adjustment to the diagram. The bottom right hand pad is used to trigger a 1/2 bar rhythmic phrase on the first beat of the bar. When i noticed that I thought it made sense to skip trying to practice that for a while because it seemed like one extra thing to think about.. in fact i'm finding that playing the rest of the hits along to something thats already has a rhythmic structure makes it much easier to develop better timing.

on my trigger finger i definately enjoy having a mix of multi-hit rhyhmic chucks and individual hits.

i use clips on the same track in live so they mute group each other.

some of them will be set to loop also so i can leave them going for longer while i trigger other sounds with other pads.

i should make a video, but its much like this machinedrum vid:
link

you are getting skills going there. but um your pinky is totally making my pinky hurt. maybe its just the angle of the camera, but it looks like an uncomfortable curl you have goin on there.

thanks. is that you in that vid? looks like fun. haha yeah my little finger unconsciously clenched up, i didn't notice that.

You've got teh thumb tech, I almost never use the thumb.
I do like the idea of introducing a 1 or 2 bar phrase intermittantly, I had hoped to do that for my next thang.

not me, no that is machinedrum/syndrone/t stweart hes got some stuff out on merck.

ah: i didn't know if it was machinedrum the artist or if there was a machinedrum machine tucked away in there somewhere. i see. yeah do a vid! (i'm enjoying the built in camera in the macbook )

nice hands!

doh! i never thought of using the macbook camera.

i use clips on the same track in live so they mute group each other.

ah i see. i've been playing with the idea of setting up scenes in live, 1 pad per channel (mapped to the channels play button) 1 scene=1 set of sounds for the pads. advance to the next scene to bring up the following set of sounds.. With clip follow actions you could replicate battery's 'round robin' and 'random' functions too..
this is an awesome series of videos and blogs you have going cbit. i am almost ready to part with some money for a mp24 or triggerfinger now. valuable stuff. thanks. and keep going!

Did you do something different at 0:06 cbit?

BTW does the mpd24 trigger even if your finger doesn't leave the pad?

at 0:06 i excitedly triggered the kick drum and a reversy smapple (3rd pad, second row from the top) a little too soon ;)

your fingers don't need to leave the pads, so you can just 'push' them rather than hit them if you prefer.

thanks bbwax: its useful for me too to keep blogging about this stuff to - more of an incentive to follow it through if 'people are watching'.

Hey i thought that bit was a really good turnaround from the rest of the stuff. On the padkontrol, i can't hit a pad and leave my finger there, it has to leave the pad entirely. Rolls and flams on it are bit of a pain to do.

criticism from classical/jazz standpoint:

conserve movement as much as possible. practice very very slowly, maintain a neutral, loose wrist position. try to keep your hands as close to the pads and relaxed as possible. this will help you avoid repetetive stress injury in the future.

also, stretch out your hands and wrists.

good ideas; i will wrk on that stuff.

you may try adapting, also, a book of drum fundamentals.
