--> I just found a couple of bands (postal_m@rket and 11hzRobot) that make music with game boys and a synth of some sort and was wondering how to make music like that.

well, you need a program for the gameboy. usually people use LSDJ (little sound dee-jay) its quite pricey these days (look on ebay) and for a casio.. uhh you hit keys to make music.

can you specify?

Ask PAWEL, he loves that sort of thing, and enjoys introducing and helping new folk into the video game music scene.

avoid pawel at any cost. he'S one of the most moronic andoffensive guy at this place.

for gameboy fun ask the following people here on the em411

xik link
or just 11hzrobot as he is also on the em411 link
or kid quaalude link

these are serious gamboyers whciha re truely helpfull

and welcome on teh em411

hi cans, if you are intersted in making gameboy music first check out the two main music apps first LSDJ and Nanoloop 1.3. You can download a demo rom of Nanoloop from here and an LSDJ demo from the LSDJ site. You can test these on an emulator on your PC. Personally, I prefer LSDJ.

Software

LSDJ

Nanoloop 1.3

Hardware

If you choose to use LSDJ, you can buy access to the LSDJ rom image which will allow you to burn the rom onto flash carts which can then be used on your gameboys. If you choose Nanoloop, you can buy the carts and do not have to worry about flash carts. If you wish to use LSDJ you will need
two flash carts and a flash cart writer.

you can get them from

robb webb or lameboy

I would suggest using old fat grey gameboys for your music, they give the best sounding output and output more bass than the other models. If you are running two gameboys at the same time you will also need a gameboy link cable, the kind you need for a two-player tetris game etc. These can be found very cheaply on ebay etc.

As for synths, any kind of cheapo toy keyboard you can find in a charity shop will sound great against a gameboy.

Any other questions, just em-mail me.

yes pawel is a troll but he will help you learn if you show interest in that scene

thing is he can't even produce decent music. so where's the stuff he would be able to teach beside douchbaggery

What sort of computer do you have?
Do you have any MIDI experience? Sequencers?
You can do it exactly like them, but theres more than one way to skin a cat... and depending upon the availability of the MIDI-to-Gameboy sync cables, you might find going the "classic" route first the hardest.
(especially since both the cable and the newer nanoloop cartidge are out of stock at the moment.. but while we're at it, lets add MIDINES to the list)

Check out the micromusic community as a great source for stuff. programs. emulators. music. people!
also look into goatracker on the mac
or you can use a more traditional Digital Audio Workstation like Audacity for free, then
go to KVR and look for arcade-like VSTi (vst instruments). Quantum64, magical8bit plug, etc. etc.
