--> that's done !
just booked my flight to Sydney on may 22nd.

my girl is over there since february and boys I'm getting crazy with spring arriving.

but it's not the only reason that make me leaving this ****ing country (France...)

life here is getting harder and harder, and the presidential election is an horrible bad joke.
we must vote next week for a new president and I feel that life in france is going to become just:

"work more to earn more > work like a slave"
"if you're not french, you must leave"

and: "if you're a musician or a dj, the sound level must be really bassless not to bore the old fascist neighbours"

so it's enough for me: just leaving with a backpack and a laptop.

I hope to work just a little, to make dj sets here and there, to swim in the pacific ocean and to live like a hippie in a van during at least one year.

it's a shame that I didn't organise the stfu marseille. It would have been a nice event and meeting again bla, VC, ufoel, quip, daswesen and all the stfu roma crew would have been a BIG BANGING PARTY !!

but > later men

sydney's crazy. some good record shops there. have fun safe happy travels and make sure you get over to new zealand's south island for a bit and ride a horse to eisengart.

Sydney is definitely a great place, but be aware that "if you're not french, you must leave" will be replaced with "if you're not australian (that is, anglo-Australian) you must leave". Especially if you're North African by descent, be a little wary.

Most Australians are great though.

BTW, I just said goodbye to a friend who moved from the USA to France for exactly the same reasons...

the sand is always browner

I dunno otterfan, where i live and also where i go to uni (in melbourne) there are heaps of africans around they seem to be very welcome in my neighborhood. But Sydney is quite a different city, i couldn't imagine the race riots they had a while back happening in melbourne.

But yeah Australian culture in general does have an undercurrent of racism running through it. The current government's public support is a clear indication of that, our current PM was a supporter of the 'white australia' policy, as recent as the late 80s.

"work more to earn more > work like a slave"
"if you're not french, you must leave"

Sorry to bring the bad news, but it's exactly the same here (except for the French bit, more "if you aren't white and anglo we'll treat you with suspicion). The government recently scrapped the department of multiculturalism, since everybody is expected to adopt the anglo way of life regardless of where they're from. Racism and intolerance is rife in Australian society and the government condones it.
Workers rights heve been eroded with new legislation (which may see them out of office in 6 months time )
Sydney is really worth a day or three at the most. It's style over substance really; once you see the Harbour and the Opera House that's kind of it really. The music (and club) scene is suprisingly crap.
But the weather is nice most of the time!

you know the score, stfu Sydney 2008 ;)
Take it easy down under

yep !

i think that I was too nervous yesterday. I know France is not the worst place to live on earth. But moving is always a good thing.

yeah my girlfriends been out there for a bit and she said most of the club scene is quite commercial, but where isnt it? i got her hooked up with some mates of mine over there who do DIY gigs and zines and that and they had a riot after that. its the same as anywhere, you need to scratch the surface to see what a city really has to offer.
i'm sure i can find that i want over there. just a club with a good sound system

anyway, every good plan here is welcome

Hopefully all goes best with you, and just don't vanish from the internet.

such a shame to hear such views on france. as a teen i used to hold france in such high esteem as a progressive and exciting place. these days i am not so sure...

good luck lematt.

> VC: I'm totally addicted to the internet. So I won't vanish
