--> Hi Everybody!
In a few weeks I have to go work in Toronto for a few weeks. For a good portion of it I will be working by myself and so once I am done for the day I need something to do. I have only been to Toronto once when I was in 8th grade on a class trip (and I have to add that it was awesome because the hotel room I was in looked over the back/alley of a strip club) so I really have no idea what to do. Based on a map I'm sort of in the York University area, I don't know what that means really.
So yeah, cool places to go, cool things to see, funny things, weird things, "Fugitives and Refugees" type stuff, I'll have my Nord modular along, maybe a jam? I don't even know.
Thanks!
And here is what Nordy thinks about going to Toronto:

i think you should go look for Kiefer Sutherland. he lives there or something. tell him to do that thing he does where he yells to "drop the guns and put your hands up".. oh i'm sorry.. he says "...put down the nuclear detinator that will destroy los angeles or i'll shoot.."

i don't know anything about toronto except for what i've read in the american airlines magazine. the stanley cup playoffs are happening. chances are a good hockey bar would be fun. aren't they all hockey bars? maybe you'll get caught up in a hockey riot?

have fun.

Had a GREAT time in Montreal recently... da beer is not quite as good as the west coast stuffs... aren't some playoff hockey's going?

I think I remember it having a nice Chinatown, and the subways are full of musicians. Just get on the subway and poke around! The Dundas street area had an amazing street drummer by the mall... thats a nice part of town if i remember right.
It's been a loooong time and I was a little kid.

I think that stret drumer is gone now, but I may be wrong. He was very energetic, but he really just played the same thing over and over. The crowds liked it though.

timmo - I suggest that you get a monthly transit pass if you will be here all during a single month (ie May, June, whatever). It gives you unlimited rides on bus, streetcar, and subway. You may be surprised at how spread out Toronto is, and York U is kind of 'out there', away from downtown.
I personally stay away from the hockey/sports bars for the most part. There are lots and lots of non-hockey bars/clubs etc all over the city.
Sounds like Nordy isn't sure whether to be excited or sad. Don't worry, once you get past the general unfriendliness of the masses, there are really some nice people here. Waht kind of things do you want to do/see? OK let me try to think of some funny things or wierd things. I'll get back to you.

continuous - I am not patriotic or anything, but I have to laugh out loud at American beer: LOL

I don't know what "fugitives and Refugees" things are, but there are lots of immigration law offices/ support groups???

transit pass is a must - york-u is about as far removed from the epicentre as you can get

the eaton centre drummer wasn't that hot - i've played with way better, and a few of them too - the real treat was the bucket drummer dude - can't remember his name for the life of me - he used to come into kinko's when i was working there - his whole kit was big plastic buckets, like the kind restaurants would get their oils, etc. delivered in. he'd stack them all into each other, so he could transport the whole thing in one hand, and he really was a solid kick-ass drummer. nice guy, too - wish i could recall his name

"...but I have to laugh out loud at American beer: LOL."

- I am neither patriotic, but I've been in Victoria, BC for close to 5 years now and the selection of beer here is piss poor. I have to say back home (Texas) we had much of a wider selection of beers which was oh so nice. It's true that the big names in the Brewery business in the states are piss poor, but the numerous upon numerous microbreweries are freakin' amazing and is what makes an American proud to be an American.

OK OK I figured there had to be some good smaller breweries, as there are everywhere. I've never been to Victoria, that's too bad. Out here there is plenty of choice of beers from around the world. In fact, I don't like most of the major Canadian Breweries' beer that much (Molson, Labatt, etc. - anyway I think at least one of these is now American-owned?!!). But we don't need to have a beer debate here - I'm actually not that passionate about it. I do lament the difficulty of finding good Scotch in Ontario, though. Or tequila, for that matter...

Still wondering what "Fugitives and Refugees" stuff is.
i actually find that surprising - the ontario/quebec region has tons of local microbrewing going on. with bc so full of tree-hugging mushroom picking hippies, i'm stunned there isn't more microbrewing

I thnk they're more into micro-growing ;)

btw, I <3 hippies. mostly.

If your around on the 12th of May you can check out Drop the Lime.
Recent blogs: Co-Op, CO-OP Jobbie, Record deal?

i like hippies too - they're more fun than business types, that's for damn sure

If I'm in townon the 12th of May, I might drop the lime myself. I'll eat my hat while I'm at it.
(translation: more info please - what is this "Drop the Lime"? a Soca party?)

which reminds me to get on topic again ---
timmo - which weeks will you be here? and if you don't mind my asking, whatcha working at? (feel free to be evasive here)

Hey timmo, get your ass down to the Gladstone hotel and work your way east. Lots to do here. See link, link, and torontolife for a start. Also torontoist.com and link (for the best pictures of Toronto EVER).

York University's out there, though. If they put you up downtown, or midtown, the subway/bus ride takes about an hour. Yikes!
