So a few of us freelancers have been talking about getting an office one day together. We work on projects together a lot and usually work from cafes or at home. Well, it finally happened and it couldn't be cooler.
#1 - We are subletting for 3 months. So it's a great trial run to see if we like it. Most likely in 3 months the old tenants will have grown too big for the space so we'll be able to decide whether we want to stay (most likely) or work from home and cafes again.
#2 - It's in Pioneer Square here in Seattle. It's close to my gym, close to a shit load of bars, cafe's, music shops (guitar shop literally around the corner), diners, restaurants, crazy people, sexy people, art, art, art! We are a part of Art Walk which is every first thurday of each month. It houses many art studios, a hip hop group and I'm sure many more talented people I'll soon discover.
#3 - The building has an awesome history. We are a part of the OK Hotel which was an old music venue. Not only was it in the movie Singles, but it was the venue that first heard Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit"! Seriously. WTF.
Today was our first day in the office and we all had our own projects to work on so we didnt' get to really decorate much but here are some pictures.
It's right next to the viaduct so recording won't be happening much here unless it's in the evening. But it's definitely an option. In other news, my next audio purchase will be Ableton Live, I'm in love with it.

that place looks so cool.
sounds like a great idea.
do you all work in the same field as freelancers?
if so, doesn't that create a little bit of competition and maybe even tension?

yeah i love it already.
yghartsyrt: no, no competition or anything. We all do graphic design and web design. I work with both of the other guys too, developing their designs. So it's really a productive environment more than anything. Easy to ask questions, bounce ideas, etc.
We typically work at cafes together or occasionally at my place or their place...so we're used to being in the same room working on projects. But it's really nice having a place to go to for work.
And if we need to get out and experience a cafe again or whatever we are close to everything.

awesome! congrats man i'm getting a little restless myself alternating between the house, coffeeshops, and libraries - i've had an office on the brain, but no cohorts to dive in with. looks like a great setup!

Yeah i love pioneer square too, the whole place just has awesome written all over it. After hitting the gym we went to this diner across the street that was straight outta the 60's. Coffee was like a buck and 2 eggs, hashbrowns and toast for $4.50. Dope, I love breakfast.
Also, it's so easy for me to get there from my house. a few buses go straight there, walking distance from downtown where even more buses go. And it's a really comfy bike ride once I get a new (old) road bike this summer. I'll try and take more pics once we get situated and liven it up. The guys there before us had a lot of clutter and it looked small. We wanna keep it opened up and spacious looking.

LOL. i'm still gonna work at home and cafe's and shit but it's nice to have a place to be able to focus on work only. Not cleaning the house or making sure the cafe's have outlets and buying another damn latte every cafe I go to even though I've had 6 cups of coffee!
And by focus on work I mean google search boobies.
