yes. get a bottle of valerian root pills. the one that is .8% valeric acid. take one pill. Wat 30 minutes.. lie down. if one dont work take two. do not use them often, it should smooth out yer sleep cycle with one good dose. You shouldnt use it more than once or twice every couple of weeks

I fully agree with utofbu about the use of valerian root.
i've been drinking valerian root tea and i must say, that stuff puts me right to sleep.
i've been using it for a few months now and it works very well.

rooibus tea - also known as redbush tea. if you brew a cup with two teabags instead of one, it'll help you sleep. leave the bags in for 5-7 minutes - redbush tea won't go bitter, even if you let it brew for ages

only problem with valerian is that with chronic use comes a chemical addiction and a posibility of stomach bleeding so only use it sparingly, its effects can be felt for days afterwards, you will notice that you are less irritated by small things that happen and you generally can keep your mind on your big picture during the day after.

That sucks. I had some good experiences with pot as well normally don't like it but for sleep it works for me and it doesn't have some of the less pleasant sides of sleeping-pills (disclaimer; I'm in the Netherlands). Also good for me is a stiff, long, walk in the evening, no half-measures; a hour or so at a brisk yet comfortable pace, can be followed by some meditation or light reading, but no TV or web.
Boring but helpfull; cut back on smoking, drinking and coffee and eat regularly and healthy food. Sort out any emotional problems that might be going on in the back of your mind. It can't hurt to eat some multi-vitamine/mineral pills as well, some vitamines affect this stuff.
Oh, and if you don't or hardly sleep for a few days you should realy be carefull in traffic.
Feel free to say "yes dad" now, I know these are boring tips but they work for me.
Good luck!

i'd say: go find a doctor. not being able to sleep can have a couple of causes. self medication might be making it worse.

As a chronic sufferer of numerous sleep disorders myself I understand only too well that insomnia is a self-fulling prophecy. You go without sleep for one night than the next night you can't sleep again because your obsessing about sleep and the cycle continues on and on... and on
You haven't really explained much about your situation. Many poeple go a few nights without sleep or very little sleep from time-to-time but it is usually tends to be stress related. How could you go without sleep for a week? You would be experiencing some pretty strange hallucinations right about know. The only people I know that have gone without sleep for that length of time have been on a meth binge and have needed to go rehab. Either way if you can't sleep for a week or have been on a ice binge you should probably see go see a doctor.
However, if that isn't the case and you have managed to get a just a little shut-eye now and then you should be ok. Humans are very resilient creatures.
It is often reccomended that you
- avoid alcohol, caffiene,at least 5 hours before you to bed (maybe pot also but I couldn't say in your case)
-only use you bedroom for sleeping and having sex. If you can't sleep and are tossing and turning get up and leave the room.
-have a sleeping routine. No matter how little you sleep try waking up at the same time and avoid naps during the day!
-exersice
- roobios tea is great because it doesn't have caffiene. you could try having some valerian or kava, but only for a short period time as others have said, you build a dependency on the stuff.
-lastly, stop worrying! when you go to bed take a deep breath and think "what's done is finished"
