I think it's time I shared something great with you guys.
***FIRST*** you must know that it takes a min to sink in and get used to it, and these are no sloppy noise jam artists, every riff is carefully planned and it shows if you pay close attention.
This band is called "lightning bolt" and they rock my fucking socks off!!
they're on this label: link load records.
everytime I swear that rock is dead, about 3 months after, I hear a band like this that totally re-baptizes me back into the church of wild, free, rock music.
it's definitely more noise than rock, but not droney sonic youthy- art-noise. but if you wait about a min, there are these totally amazing mountaniousriffs that just floor you. and they use them well too.
go to this link and download the 3 mp3s availible by this band.
link
especially "13 monsters" and "dracula mountain"
then go watch the "paper rad" (e-rock, ben jones..etc, that's going to be my next blog) music video here : link
and watch them live here: link
this one's tricky (and the best) because they do a noise thing for a min (which can be a little much.),but wait for it, and dig this: he has a banjo string on his bass and he does this ungodly chilling sarrong-indianish solo followed by just epic riffs and drumming.
ignore the dork intro and watch this last (not as good): link
now go buy a shitload of their cd's here:
link
it's like gutter punk took some acid and practiced their chops for a year straight.
it's beautiful noise. my favorite part is that the noise is so very calculated.
ok I need to get back to work now.

My personal favorite drum and bass combo is OM: link
2/3s of the stoner rock band Sleep. They are not as noisy but really hypnotic and trance inducing.

lightning bolt is badass. sleep it pretty sick (i was listining to sleep's holy mountain just the other day). rock music isn't dead, but mainstream rock will never really get out of the doldrums of incorperation. there is some interesting stuff out there if you look hard enough.

Welcome to the Noise Scene in Providence, Rhode Island.
Lightning Bolt is a pretty good example. They've been doing their thing around here for around 9 years.
Great Guys.

i think they couldn't go to japan cos of other reasons.
they played in leeds and are well worth seeing just if you like big amps and cabs.
i looked at their gear afterwards and it really is something to behold. amp modellers
going into huge Crown PA amps in turn feeding massive cabs. apparently they blow something
every gig.
we got a few good bands in a similar vain here -

I've been meaning to check these guys out. And what even furthered my interest is a recommendation from Squarepusher in an interview. He said the bass player gets a mean deep bass sound.
