I am getting paid this FRIDAY. do any of you smart people know anything about sound isolation. i tried makeing something out of cardboard last time. it probably only masks around 30% of the sound from inside of it.
this time though i'm going to take some handyman skillz and make something 4 reals. like it needs to be pro-grade.
i want the booth to be like 6x8ft and tall enough for my monkey brains to slip into safely. this weekend i will probably start out with plywood, some 2x4's and some carpet to cover the outside with till i figure out the insulation/best stuff for that. what do you do do you just pad the thing with aurulux foam or something? there is also that mat sound stuff that i will put on the inner walls and floor, the bottom with probably be on wheels maybe, or at least some really thick/gummy rubber feet to help keep the vibration out.
i will also like to crate a ventilation duct that is efficient at keeping the air temp in there decen ttoo.
any help is rad t hanks! n e thing to make this pro would be kool, oh yeah and jdg, i will P PAL cash for taht Pt-80 sometime this weekend most likely, thanks man!!!

So you wanna scream and yell in there without disturbing anyone?
Or do you need to keep noise out?
Or both?
The rubber feet are a good idea.

thanks psyingo, i think i'll make a plywood/blockaid sandwich for the walls. interesting read seems more like a permanent housing structure though.
squal, pretty much yeah, not really into screaming that much but when an abstract idea comes into mind it would be niec to rehearse it out loud to see how it works, plus practicing guitar through headphones is really bad, being able to put a med/smaller amp in there to run guitar through and play out loud late at night would be nice.
even though it's not adviced to mix in such an eviroment, i would like to be able to buy some nice monitors and mix tracks in there out loud too and stop using headphones of which i try to be careful with out of fear of early stages of hearing loss (don't think it's there yet but being careful)
noise coming in doesn't bother me too much, it's just soundproofing interior noise from the outside world.

mlbot and I were talking about this the other day...we were wondering whether that spray on insulation would work in place of foam.

Some of the things I read on the interweb suggested using regular insulation as opposed to Acoustic insulation... especially if you were on a budget.
Some of those acoustic paddings you are looking at are designed to cut down on reflections and standing waves... and it sounds like you just want to deaden all sound, not cut down on standing waves and such... which makes me think any old insulation will work.
Are you renting?

hmm yeah deaden sounds more like it, i am renting
not planning on building anything built into the house, but preferably a portable but sturdy enclosure that can be disassembled for future use in new locations.

you should look into getting mineral wool, it will do a much better job than auralex
link
they make cheap traps but you could make them yourself with some mineral wool, canvas, and a frame
