--> So far i've been limiting myself to the integrated pluggers in FLstudio. I've never used any VSTis before, having used to write all my stuff in fruity 2.7, so the whole thing's new to me. I've tried for as long as i can to keep myself from downloading every free plug off KVR. Mainly for the reason that i know it's too easy to stick with the presets, and not fuck around with the shizzers too much, gets boring.

My plan is to try and get a bank of very versitile, free VSTs and VSTis to use regularly. Maybe 5-10 of them. So tonight's the night that i'm gonna start the auditions. I'm not too keen on using piano synths, I shy away from piano sounds as they tend to sound too cheesy if realistic or too mundane if synthetic. I'd like one or two versitile monosynths, maybe something for fat synth bass sounds, something for analog or FM string sounds, maybe some sort of programmable / automatable electronic drum sounds, and a couple of wierd manglers that don't sound too generic. Some things i can fiddle with live would be nice too.

So let me know your recoomendations. What VSTis do you go back to again and again? Which ones can't you live without? How do you manage? do you have a harem you return to? or just sleep around with whatever cheep slut of a vst that's hanging around the street corner?

I'll let you know how i get on. (presuming my internet connection's a bit more stalble when i get home...)

just unzipped them samples from kb6 too... minty fresh!
not sure how to work the hollowsun ones though, dont know what .afi, .afp or .afs are!
(could look but can't be arsed...)

I have downloaded 300+ plugins from KVR, literally every free one at the time I did it, and I believe these to be the cream of the crop. This list seems pretty standard, many of these are also others' favorites as well:

Monosynths: Taurus, rgc triangle
Polys: Superwave P8 (excellent imo), Synth1
FM: Oxe
Other: Crystal
Drums: drumatic

FX: Ambience (great reverb), Metal Mickey (unusual "sequenced" delay), Glitch

Nicely done. I think it's gonna take many hours of messing about to get something good doing. Sometimes they annoy me when they have too many effects built in: delays etc, any DAW will have the capability to have its own delay, native plugs usually being more cpu efficient it seems... Enjoyed synth1 and drumatic and the moog one, make the sort of sounds that i tend to sample anyway so handy for getting different variations.

One thing i really don't get that's really annoying me is that i can't work out how to get my midi synth controlling the nobs. I haven't tried automating them but i'm not sure that that'd work either... Am i missing sdomethning? do i need to set up some sort of midi port plugin seperate? I thought it'd be like other FL plugins where you can just right click and assign... I'll put a link in the forum actually, better place to discuss.
