sigh.
Just watched "Sicko", the new Michael Moore film about healthcare in the U.S. Amazingly depressing and angering. But very good. It may not be up too much longer, so watch it while you can.
Love,
Shaun

Yeah, I downloaded this recently and wrote about it for a documentary class I'm taking.
I really found it to be Moore at his best. It wasn't him attacking, but rather empathizing with the victims in America and comparing the US to other countries around the world who have had universal healthcare for quite some time.
awesome watch...do it!

I felt so embarrassed and sad watching this movie. Remembering how utterly flithy was the hospital my father died in. We cleaned the floors ourselves, which were covered with rotting spills, my family did. The environment there was just atrocious. Both times he went to the hospital. And each room he was moved to. All were filthy. You know which floor was clean? The floor where they sent you to die. The hospice floor had pretty lighting and was spotless.
I will never forget the night they moved the Polish man who was in the bed next to my dad's up to the hospice floor. He could barely speak English, had no family or friends visiting him and was really put off by the racket my dad's friends would make when they came to visit. Poor guy was really bitter. And one night he even fell off his bed. It was so sad. Anyway, a representative from the hospital came and had a talk with him to address his complaints of not being able to sleep and wanting better care. The hospital representative told him he could move him up to the hospice floor and there it would be much more peaceful. The guy agreed and I'm not totally sure he understood what he was agreeing to. But I do not believe that he did understand this. It was presented to him as an option to address the noise issue. Anyway, before the winking of an eye he was gone from my dad's room. Very sad indeed.

Yeah, I'm just watching it now. Quite humbling in a way, thinking about the UK and Greek systems by comparison, though we moan in the UK & here too (waiting lists?!). Interesting that Tony Benn and that Canadian guy hint that free healthcare is a right, not a privalage. I was pretty taken aback when I first heard about the US system. I thought we'd copied everything from the Americans!

Just finished watching it, very good (even though i don't like the guy) in my opinion.
It does make me realise living in the UK how fortunate we are...then again i suppose it makes people in Cuba think how lucky they are..
..oh dear..

Just watched a bit and had to go to work... that film is going to make me ANGRY. Healthcare and capitalism don't mix well. Anyway it's all over BitTorrent too.

if i would have had health insurance, it would have cost me MORE for chemo, then what i got thru charity care by not having insurance
that makes no sense.

I thought this was about the pop-punk band Sicko. oh well....
I'd be curious to see this .. I liked that jolly fat man at one time. He lost my trust in his "compassion" with Bowling for Columibine at the end with Charlie Heston... I think Charlie is a fucktwat (I mean I do call him Charlie) .. but he had every right to walk out of the room. Cheap bullshit.

Well the big difference here is that Moore is attacking anyone straight on...it's not a montage Moore's relentless attacks...but it's rather him empathizing with victims all across America.
I hope this wakes some people to become active in this country. I've been in Canada for 5 years now for university and I'm to go back down south. I'd really like to get active with some type of organization in order to propagate some change in our dysfunctional American system,
