max/msp multiple licenses

I've been thinking about getting the new max/msp/jitter suite at some point (although holding off because I have a feeling that as soon as I buy it they'll release max/msp 5 followed soon thereafter by jitter 2), however I've also been seriously considering getting a new laptop when I can finally afford it. My understanding of the licensing policy, though, is that I'd have to buy a seperate version for the new computer. Am I wrong? All three programs run at about $850. All anti-piracy crap aside, if I drop that kind of cash on a program, I'd like to be able to run it on all the computers I own. Now granted, one could argue that you can always run patches on all your computers via max runtime, however if I were trying to run patches on two laptops at the same time, it would suck to have to edit on one computer, then send to the other constantly while in the troubleshooting phases.
I realize this makes max-heads vulnerable to all you open source dorks out there (ahem pd/supercollider geeks), but max is just so durn pretty and I'm already used to using it. There's an analogy here somewhere about dumping a smart sexy woman whom you already love for her equally smart but homely cousin just because you wouldn't have to pay for dinner, but I'm not going to make it for gender equity reasons ;)
Anyways, please someone tell me that I have this wrong. Could I possibly share my license between 2 computers, or is cycling 74 hosing us?

I prefer the analogy that pretty women are boring as they dont develop personalities due to getting through life on looks alone, while ugly women have depth of character and youre more like to be friends with. ME: im ugly and boring.
You could always do what some have: install the 'try before buy' on the unlicensed pc while the licensed copy is on the other - loads of peopel do this so they keep their legit install safe [SX3 users did it to prevent their dongle getting lost/being stolen when out playing gigs]

yeah, but the demo period for max is only 30 days. After that it's not like you just lose features and functions...shit just locks up and prompts you to buy it. Aside from that, it's not the point. Forgetting about the dual laptop idea, let's say I buy max now and register it, then in 4 months my computer dies and I have to get another one, or I decide to upgrade. Not only would I need to shell out the cash for a new computer, but also for a new program which I had already owned. This just doesn't sound right to me, which is why I'm hoping that I misinterpreted something somewhere along the line.
Also, doesn't depth of character tend to MAKE people pretty? Superficial people get through life on looks alone, but smart people (pretty or not) still develop character because they have real goals. Also, I don't think you should feel bad since all of us are ugly and boring. That's why we spend our time talking to people in a faceless environment, prattling on and on about crap like software licenses and fictitious situations like dating. There are, of course, a few exceptions like madeofoak. Dude is the don juan of milwaukee.

it was only another analogy I heard, tripnik. i sort of invited you to run with it but not to do a full on mararthon ;)
i think you mis-understood what I meant by "try before buy" versions.

ah! unfortunately those specific evaluation versions are unavailable at this time for the new max/msp. Also, please note the part I mentioned above about "prattling on and on".

I only use one license, but I bought it in my last days of being a student and at the time (about a year ago) I'm pretty positive you could have multiple licenses (at least 2). I think you just have to request another response here (and explain why you need it in the comments) link
There is also the option of ilock which lets you move from comp to comp (which I've heard is a major ass pain for some reason I forgot)...
edit: link won't show up, but at the top of the site go to purchase, product reg., and follow the link to the auth. forms at the bottom...

they allow you to activate twice.. and they're prefectly fine with ppl who have a desktop and a laptop to activate it once there, and once somewhere else, even tho they'd like it if u bought two copies..

Cycling 74 is a really cool company, if you call them and explain your situation they will probably let you register on multiple computers.
