--> Good day fellow em411ers,

I've been meaning to do this for some time now. I purchased a monome 40h back in April just when they were about to sellout. I managed to score one and then had my house guests over for what seemed like an eternity (10 days). The whole point of getting this lil' device was to play my material live in an improvisational manner. So after a couple of weeks I finally manged to decide upon effects, cc mappings, tracks, etc etc.

My liveset is comprised of my laptop, a 40h, and a remotezero sl. I use a max/msp patch created by Brian Crabtree called "mlr." It allows me to take the samples from my tracks and essentially cut them up in realtime and create new patterns etc. It's quite a versatile application when paired with the 40h (der, it was created for the 40h). I also use Live to effect those same samples. I just rewire max/msp to Live and have 3 channels for my 4 channels/groups of sound from max/msp (oh I wish the next version will allow 4 buses to rewire). Originally I had the tempo sync'd to the remotezero sl, but oh gawd it was terrible. Whenever i was moving a knob or 2 I'd get all these tempo jumps...it was terrible. It took me a while to figure that wasn't going to work. filarion advised me that he used Live as the beat clock master...so that's what I did, but I had reinstalled max/msp and was having all sorts of trouble getting max/msp to recognize Live...then I realized I had to press play in Live. duh...

So yeah, it all works relatively well and isn't completely predetermined, which is what I love. I can craze it up at the end of tracks and make a new experience each time. The setup time involved isn't too bad (i.e. rendering tracks from my songs down and setting them up in mlr). Then on top of the setup time you've really gotta practice it (i find) to get it down solid. Though I enjoy all this, it makes me feel like I'm putting some effort into the performance and not just pressing play.

So without further ado, here's my first liveset.

btw, these were tracks which were produced without the intent to really play them out, so hopefully the next batch of tracks i produce will be more structured to play live.

sounds nice!

i enjoyed many of the tunes, thank you for the liveset

glad to hear you are getting the out of live and into mlr process going.

nice work! ps. is "liveset" one word when we're talking about electronic music, and two words when we're talking about every other band? just curious.
